Those who need access to word documents and spreadsheets should consider Openoffice.org. This online technology service offers access to the essential products often associated with Microsoft Office and it can be accessed free of charge. Reviewers like the free component and they also like that Open Office is compatible with any operating system. Open Office offers “A Full Office Suite for Free” and is basically a “Free, Fully Functional MS Office Alternative”. This is a high quality office suite. Don't assume that Microsoft Office is better simply because it's more expensive. The two are virtually identical. For everyday use, you can use OpenOffice with no problems. There's no learning curve. You can save your files in Microsoft-compatible formats, so there is almost no problem with interoperability.
And OpenOffice is free. It is an active open-source project, meaning that the program won't add sypware or other menacing garbage to your computer. It is frequently updated with new features and security fixes.

This will not be much of a review due to my computer ignorance, maybe someone who knows computers will write a better review.
After a catastrophic crash (ATT didn't tell me their service was for Windows only) I lost the free copy of AppleWorks 6 that came with my computer. I remembered Bob LeVitus (Dr. Mac) recommending OpenOffice.org. This is a full service office suite that contains everything found in AppleWorks and Microsoft Word but, unlike them, works on any OS. A credible rival to MS Office, OpenOffice.org includes powerful applications for making text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, diagrams, and databases, as well as HTML and XML documents. Not only does it let you edit basic documents, such as letters and faxes, it also handles equations and complex and multipart documents with bibliographies, reference tables, and indexes.

I downloaded OpenOffice for the first time a couple of years ago. I couldn't afford to purchase MS Office and was looking for an alternative. I had been interested in a Sun ultra sparc computer and in looking at Sun's site, I found out about OpenOffice. This is a complete office suite and the interface is much the same as MS Office, which I now own and use as well. Probably my favorite feature is to be able to convert my work to PDF format. They have recently added new templates and upgraded. I feel it is a good stable program and although it is free, these developers do deserve a little something...
