Good for cooking but hard to clean.

By

from USA

Comments about Oneida Pizza Stone:

We received this pizza stone as a gift for our wedding. I was really excited about it because we really love pizza. We started using it right away. It works really well as far as cooking goes. The pizza always cooks great when you place it on this stone in the oven. It gets crisp but not overly done. I love that feature about it. However, I found that it was really difficult to clean. You are not supposed to use soap on it so you basically use water and scrap it. If you do not clean it quickly, the cheese and sauce can be really hard to get off of it. We eventually quit using it because ours got so dirty and we could not get it all off. It does have a nice cooling rack that goes with it.

Performance
The performance is great. The pizza cooks really well on it and always tastes great. We never had a problem with performance.

Ease of Cleaning
This is what I didn't like at all. This stone was not easy to clean at all. It is the reason we eventually quit using it.

Durability
The stone held up great but it got really dirty.

Design
The design is nice and classy but it needs another way to be cleaned.

Doesn't Stick
We did not have a problem with pizza sticking to it. However, the cheese and the sauce stuck often.

Pizza has never been better

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Oneida Pizza Stone:

My home made pizzas have never turned out better!

Performance
I LOVE making Pizza at home, because its cheaper and because I know what is going into them. When I got this stone, it was a toss up between this and pampered chef. I ended up getting both but I like this one a lot better. It cooks super evenly and quickly I like a crunchy crust and this stone easily achieves that, no problem

Ease of Cleaning
I wish it was dishwasher safe, but its not. You can ruin it if you put soap or harsh abrasive chemicals on it, so you do need to hand wash it with some water and scrape off any residue

Durability
I have had this for a few years now and I love it more now than when it was brand new!

Design
Great shape and size, and I love the little metal tray for it to sit on so that you don't need to even use a trivet or the like

Doesn't Stick
Never had anything stick it at all, except run off from toppings which easily come off with some warm water and a little scraper tool

Pretty good

By

Comments about Oneida Pizza Stone:

My mom's friend was getting rid of their pizza stone that they never used so I took it off their hands. I really don't see a difference in the way it cooks pizza though. I would just put pizza on aluminum foil or a cookie sheet prior to this and that was fine. I do like that this is just for pizza though so no other flavors can be cooked into it. The most annoying thing about this is that it isn't easy to clean. You can't use soap with it because it will soak into the ceramic. Also it is not dishwasher safe for the same reason. If you leave the melted cheese on the stone until it dries it is really difficult to get off but you can't really wash it when it's still melty because the stone will be hot

Great Crispy Crusts Cracked Me Up!

By

from Podunk, NY

Comments about Oneida Pizza Stone:

One of the things that our family has enjoyed over the years has been the exploration of different methods to make pizza. We have tried enamel, steel, terracotta, stoneware, and cast iron pans. One of the stoneware pans that we tried out was the Oneida Pizza Stone with handles on it.

Performance
You have to season the stone by a process explained in the literature that comes with the pizza stone. It is a matter of oil and using cornmeal to keep pizza from sticking for a while until it reaches the non-stick phase. The pizza it made was excellent- the crunchy crust cooked thoroughly yet was not overly dry, and the toppings kept the rest of the pizza moist enough.

Ease of Cleaning
The hard thing about pizza stones is that you have to let them naturally season as you use them. That means that they pass from the neutral light taupe grey color to a darkened uneven stainy looking appearance. This will bother some people who are conditioned to have all of their cookware sparkling clean with no spots on it. Our pizza stone did season very well and reached a good stage but did not ever become completely stick free.

Durability
Unfortunately, this pizza stone is quite thin. If you put it on a preheated oven, it is possible for the stone to break. That is what happened to our stone. That is why they tell you to put the stone in the oven and let it heat up and put the pizza on the hot stone. That way the stone won't break from the sudden temperature change. If you follow those directions, the stone will last longer. It is much more challenging to make pizza, however, so it can be frustrating. but the stone won't break as easily. We used our stone for three years before it broke by putting pizza on the cold stone and then into the hot oven. But we paid the price. No more stone.

Design
If you follow instructions, this pan will perform well over time. The handles are great so you don't have to try to handle the hot stone in emergencies. It makes it easier to move the stone around. I still wish it was a little thicker and durable though.

Doesn't Stick
If you season the stone as directed and use corn meal on the stone to prevent sticking this will work well most of the time. We use whole grain flour which makes things tend to stick a bit more, and once in a while we would have a small issue, but most of the time, it was a great stone that did not stick.

The Oneida Pizza Stone isn't what I thought it would be.

By

from Camp Lejeune, NC

Comments about Oneida Pizza Stone:

My mom knew that I really wanted a pizza stone because I had been asking for one for a while. She got me the **Oneida Pizza Stone** for me as a gift, so I feel horrible because I donated it to the GoodWill. It just wasn't what I thought it would be like and I realized I don't need a pizza stone anyways!

Performance
I followed the directions and tried to make pizza several times before I gave up and donated this pizza stone. I tried putting pizza dough on the pre-heated stone, that didn't work, so I went against the directions and put the dough right on a room temperature stone. That didn't work either. I will never know the true performance of this product because it never worked right for me.

Ease of Cleaning
I give this a poor rating for ease of cleaning because you can't wash the stone with soap, just water. I found it difficult to get food off of and I dreading getting out this stone because I just didn't want to deal with baking on it or cleaning it.

Design
I do like that this pizza stone comes with a wire rack so you don't have to transfer the hot stone everywhere you go. It did make storing the pizza stone awkward though because it took up so much space.

Doesn't Stick
I never got my stone to the non-stick phase.

Pizza turns out great!

By

from New Haven, IN

Comments about Oneida Pizza Stone:

I had only made pizza once in my life on a pizza stone on a Pampered Cheif pizza stone. I did not have very good results with it so I never really cared for pizza stones. I was given two of these Oneida pizza stones for a wedding shower gift. The first time I made pizza on this stone I was very surprised at how wonderful the pizza turned out! The crust was really nice and crispy! The directions for using the stone said to pre heat the stone in the oven as the oven pre heats then roll out your dough and place it on the hot stone. I just put the pizza on the cold stone and put it in my already pre heated oven. I am not sure why they tell you that but it works the way I use it. The stone will keep your pizza hot for quite a while after you take it out of the oven, so be sure that if your pizza is about to burn that you take it off the stone! The pizza stone can be hard to clean since you can't put soap in it. I have noticed that when I make whole wheat pizza, the stone gives the pizza dough a funny flavor...not sure why...maybe it's just my recipe.

Love Pizza cooked on a stone

By

from Redmond, WA

Comments about Oneida Pizza Stone:

We eat pizza about once a week in my house and this is a great addition to the pizza making.  The crust is crispy and it makes a big difference.  The ease of taking the pizza in and out of the oven makes it worth it as well.  My boyfriend is on his second one and he said to be careful cleaning it, he broke one.  Also, after many uses they do turn colors, but who cares when the pizza is fanastic!

Oneida Pizza Stone - It's okay

By

from Little Rock, AR

Comments about Oneida Pizza Stone:

I've had this square Oneida Pizza Stone for about one year now.  The homemade pizzas that I've baked on it have turned out fine.  Some great instructions are included with the pizza stone.  They tell how to wash it, how to season it with grease and cornmeal, how to preheat it, and how to use it to keep foods warm while serving.  These should come in really helpful for someone like me who has not owned a pizza stone before.  It says you can use a pizza cutter directly on the stone, but I've not done that...nor am I sure that I would, just to keep the stone and cutter in better condition.

I've not cooked anything except homemade pizzas, but I hear and see you can bake other things on it like Indian bread (naan), cookies, bread, frozen pizzas, even baked chips!

With use, the pizza stone stains.  The instructions say that this is "normal and part of the stone's natural seasoning process."  Supposedly, it will not affect the effectiveness or taste.
