For the past year, I have tried to go back to a platinum blonde color.  I've had many hair colors and this last time I went from a light auburn/honey brown to as-light-as-possible blonde.  Unfortunately, even with bleach, that transition left my hair with a tacky yellow hue.  Since then I've just been trying to use various hair dyes to counter the yellow, but none of it has actually neutralized the yellow, just temporarily cover it up until the hair color faded out. I got my hair done in a salon in Japan this last time, and asked for a color that would be neutral blonde.  In order to get that from my hair color, they added a purple hair dye to neutralize the yellow.  If you consider the color wheel, yellow and purple are opposites, or more correctly, complimentary colors.  So if you combine them while painting, you'll get a type of grey hue.  Actually, when the purple color faded out, it was almost a silver (it was really cool!) Since I'm not in Japan right now, and I don't always want to have the purple tint for a couple of weeks, I decided to look into different possibilities.  I went to Sally Beauty and was told about Shiny Silver.  Its a shampoo heavily tinted in purple.  I've heard of that type of thing before, because a long time ago, I used to purchase red shampoo.   I've only used this one product.  There is at least one other purple shampoo I am aware of, but I read in reviews that it is very drying.  This shampoo does not seem to be drying to my hair, plus I use a lot of other products to keep it moisturized.  As far as the color goes, I was warned in the beginning that if I use it too much or on really light parts of my hair, that I would get a purple/blue tint.  I use it every time I shower, and a good amount of it and don't even have the slightest ashy tint.  However, I do think it helps some to keep the yellow tints to a minimum.  I think I will continue using it for now, however, I don't feel like its as strong as I've been warned it is.
