One for the money is the first book in a series of fun to read action-adventure books written for women. The author, Janet Evanovich, combines hilarious story telling with mystery, action, and romance, in a book that is easy to read.
Stephanie Plum is the main character in this book, and the many that follow in the series, who becomes a bounty hunter on a whim. Yes, I know, the idea sounds a little hokey, but it IS FUNNY! Hunting down criminals does NOT come easy for Stephanie Plum, and reading about her clumsiness, fear of guns, and utterly disastrous attempts at law enforcement is funny,...
review »I picked up One For the Money at my local library because I needed something to keep me busy while I wait for Sue Grafton to write the next installment in her alphabet series.
I do tend to love series books, mainly because the characters become more and more real as you learn details about their lives and thoughts. This story did not disappoint!
Main character Stephanie Plum takes on a role that most women would be terrified to face (a bounty hunter, working for her slimeball cousin) but she does it with sarcastic humor that endears her to the reader. A romance with the man she's supposed...
review »Janet Evanovich does an incredible job of writing for every woman. She not only does an ingenius job of detailing these murder mysteries, but she does an ingenius job at character development of all major and minor characters in all of her books.
There are 14 books in the Stephanie Plum series, and I am on book number 7 right now. They are hard to put down!!
Stephanie Plum is a lingerie buyer for a big lingerie company until she gets laid off. Needing money, she goes to work for her cousin, who is a bail bondsman. If someone misses their court date and goes FTA (Failure To Appear), Stephanie...
review »The Stephanie Plum series is laugh out loud funny. If you don't have time to read books, then you better not pick this one up. You will be laughing so hard, that you won't want to put it down. You will find yourself finish whatever you're doing, just so you can get back to your new favorite series. The hardest part about falling in love with this series is having to wait a year for the next book. Luckly, she gives us a bone by writing what she calls a half book for us. The half books usually come out in January or Febuary and the Number series is usually May or June.
If you are...
review »I am very picky about the books I read. I usually am recommend a book to read, if I like it I will read all the books by that author. That's just what I do. I do not have a public library near my house and I don't want to waste money on books that I might not like. A friend of mine gave me several books to read and this was one of them. I was hooked. I am so in love with the Stephanie Plum series that I won't even read the last book of the series because I can't stand not to know what happens next and I don't want to have to wait a year or however long it takes until the following book...
review »Janet Evanovich is a great writer. She brings the characters to life in the novel "One For the Money." Stephanie Plum seems lke a real person, one that I feel like I have met before. She is bungling and hilarious. The book would never flow without the help of all of the characters that are assembled. Grandma Mazur, Vinnie, Stephanie's parents, Morelli and the asssorted bad guys keep you wanting more. The visual set that Evanovich paints for you is of a scene that most readers can tap into from thier memories and experiences. The book is an easy read, and the series flows together...
review »Janet Evanovich's first book in the Stephanie Plum series, "One for the Money" will pull you in and have you searching for book 2 *Just an FYI....you can pick up books 1-3 in "Three Plums in One" - this will save you from chomping at the bit when you finish the first one. "One for the Money" is the first in the series of fourteen currently published books. Also look out for her "Between the Numbers" series, and her Alex Barnaby series.
Having grown up near Philly, with lots of Italian friends, this book cracked me up, and reminded me of home. Stephanie is a character that you will automatically...
review »I first started reading Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum Series while working in a bookstore. There really was not a whole lot to do there except read, the customers were few, but one in particular turned my attention towards the misadventures of Stephanie Plum, novice Bounty Hunter, and from there it was sheer joy with every turn of the page. If you haven't gotten to know Stephanie, Grandma Mazur, Joe Morelli, or RANGER (and let's not forget the scrumptious Diesel), then it's time to go to your local bookstore, walk up to the clerk, and ask them to point you into the direction of the Fiction section...
review »The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich are some of my absolute favorite books to read. I have read the entire series plus the "between the numbers" books as well. They are highly entertaining and funny. I love the characters and how easily it is to relate to the main character, Stephanie.
The books center around the life of Stephanie who is a bounty hunter. Need I say more? Her family is hilarious as is her love-life. Everything works together well and each book fits nicely into the series but they can hold their own if you do not read them in order.
The pace of each novel...
review »You can not go wrong with Janet Evanovich!!! The Plum series is one of the best! Hilarious & entertaining reads! Her characters are so funny & you can't help but love them! You will find yourself not being able to put down the book & you just can't wait to turn the page. Fast, entertaining, funny reads! I always look forward to reading the next book in the series (or any of her other books for that matter)! You won't be disappointed with any book you choose to read by Evanovich! I highly recommend her books to everyone. If you haven't read anything by Evanovich pick up one of...
review »This series is stellar! The first book starts the series with a bang and the fun hasn't stopped yet! I've read all 14 plus the "in-betweens" and I've yet to be let down. It's a fast paced, easy read, jam packed with adventure, mystery, romance and plain old fun. The witty dialog and the relatability of the characters makes them all the more endearing.
In One For the Money, we'r introduced to our heroine, Stephanie, and her family, crazy coworkers and some lovable extras. Janet Evanovich mixes in just the right amount of suspense and romance to keep you reading and the fun factor...
review »This is one of a series of awesome books. They come out in June every summer, and I've read every one. The last one is the 13th in a series and One for the Money is the First. It's about a girl named Stephanie from New Jersey who falls on hard times and has to take a job as a bounty hunter, working for a relative. There are two love interests, a cop and another bounty hunter who is gorgeous and a little dark. She get into all kinds of problems and has to learn to be a bounty hunter without carrying a gun (she keeps hers unloaded in the cookie jar). There are some scary characters and the books...
