One for the money is the first book in a series of fun to read action-adventure books written for women.  The author, Janet Evanovich, combines hilarious story telling with mystery, action, and romance, in a book that is easy to read.

Stephanie Plum is the main character in this book, and the many that follow in the series, who becomes a bounty hunter on a whim.  Yes, I know, the idea sounds a little hokey, but it IS FUNNY!  Hunting down criminals does NOT come easy for Stephanie Plum, and reading about her clumsiness, fear of guns, and utterly disastrous attempts at law enforcement is funny, and cleverly written.  Stephanie Plum slowly begins learning the talent, and the reader will cheer for her every small achievement.

The author of the book, Janet Evanovich, is an award winning author and has written MANY other books besides just the Stephanie Plum series.  I enjoyed her unique writing style so much, that after reading One for the money, I went out and got several of the other books in the series. To date, the books in the Stephanie Plum series include:

  • One for the money
  • Two for the dough
  • Three to get deadly
  • Four to score
  • High Five
  • Hot Six
  • Seven up
  • Hard Eight
  • Visions of Sugar Plums
  • To the Nines
  • Ten Big Ones
  • Eleven on Top
  • Twelve Sharp
  • Plum Lovin'
  • Lean Mean Thirteen
  • Plum Lucky
  • Fearless Fourteen
  • Plum Spooky
  • Finger Lickin' Fifteen

As you can see, once you begin reading these great books, you'll have many more to look forward to!  I'm anxious to read what hilarious new situations Stephanie Plum gets herself into.  This girl has attitude, she's opinionated, and she actually likes to eat!  That's rare in books, as usually we are given some thin, pretty, dainty character that is afraid of her own shadow.  Stephanie Plum is a unique character that women can relate to.

I've never read an action-adventure series that was written for women.  I'm not sure if I would have picked up the book if I had known what it was, but I'm so glad I did.  At the end of a hard day, I need to laugh, and this book (and the ones to follow) provide me with a fun escape from reality.  I highly recommend One for the money, and the other books in the Stephanie Plum series.

Well done review! A good friend of mine just sent me the first three books of Janet Evanovich as a Mother's day gift! I can't wait to read them!
