At the doctor's suggestion to monitor my blood glucose on a regular basis due to medications/family history of diabetes/current weight (too high)...I decided to pop into the local pharmacy to see what they had. What they had was shelf after shelf of blood glucose monitoring systems...which to choose?....which would be best for me? So many choices, so little time! Soooo...I did what I did when I chose my blood-pressure monitor...I chose the most attractive (and pink) :-D
The OneTouch® Ultra Mini was, obviously, my choice...hey...it comes in PINK!
Well, not only is mine pink, but it's incredibly easy to use, and compact enough to slip into a pocket or, in its special lightweight nylon carrying case, to drop into a purse, briefcase, or even fasten to your belt!
It also allows you the freedom of choosing fingertip, or palm or forearm, testing sites, using only a very tiny drop of blood!
The cost of the strips seems reasonable enough...and they're covered under most health plans (at least they are in Canada)...at 84.76 CAD per 100 (or approximately 85cents each) they may seem expensive, but that's enough to test 3 times a day for 30 days (with left-overs for the occasional error, etc) I certainly think my health is worth $2.55 a day!! What's that? the price of a coffee?
The unit itself holds up to 500 tests in its memory, or alternatively one can use the Diabetes Managment software and interface cable (either serial or usb are available...sells for $39.99 (including shipping, handling, and all applicable taxes) to store and access more tests. The special interface cable is only available through customer care.
