One Life To Live —

Soaps are among my guilty pleasures. I've watched them since I was a kid, which means I've seen actors come and go, and some really, really insane and stupid stories play themselves out.

One Life to Live is the master of the absurd, when it comes to daytime tv. Long before it became campy to cast apes and little people, OLTL was spinning nutty storylines about dual personalities, alternate universes, fictional blood types and, yes, even time travel. Over the years, this nutty show has provided some of the campiest, juiciest, most fun daytime tv, ever. Surprisingly enough, it's also offered some really fine acting and some really great, very human storylines.

During the last 5-10 years, soaps have gone downhill. Writers have catered to a younger audience, sacrificing their solid, long-standing fanbase. This has been a real shame. It's gotten so that many of the shows I used to watch are inhabited by characters that have absolutely no history. if there's one thing about die-hard soap fans it's this: we follow the history of our fictional soap characters, towns, families, etc.

Over the last few months I've watched as the powers that be at One Life To Live have done a great job of returning the show it its former glory. The big stories are once again about characters I know and care about. The business of wasting their best talent (somethign that's happened a lot over the last few years) seems to be over. Anyone who has watched OLTL knows that it's all about Vikki, Dorian and the Buchanan family. Well, they're all here these days, front and center...and I couldn't be happier. Old fans will also be glad to hear about the return of Marty, TIna, and Carlo and the rumors that Karen Wlek may even be making a visit to Llanview. If we really do get to see Karen again, and Marco, I'll up the ante and say the show gets 5 stars, instead of 4.

Reasons to tune in, lately

Dorian's take-over of Buchanan Industries!!!!
The campy/delicious accidental death of Nash
Tess is back - sorry Jessica
Talia's big secret
Tina! Cain! Marty! Carlo!
Lindsay's criminal acts exposed
Todd, Todd, and more Todd

I love One Life. I watch that and All My daily. Since you have watched for many years, I'd like your opinion on something. Should Natalie even be there? I seem to remember Vikki giving birth to one child and she and Clint in the room together. She was not Nikki. Am I right?

In response to LisaCarey's comment from Jul 11, 2008 at 8:50PM:

I grew up watching Days....but I go back to the days of the Laura/Mickey/Bill triangle....and wasn't watching anymore by the time Days got to the demonic possession storyline (even though I couldn't help but read about it.) OLTL is the only one I care much about these days...I still catch Y&R and AMC, but not religiously.

I was a faithful recorder of this (b4 I had DVR) then also Soapnet, but as they opportunities to watch it went down so did the content. So, off my schedule it went. If it makes you feel any better I am a die hard "Days" fan -- from as far back as Marlena's demon possession.
