Durable Camera

5

I bought this camera sometime ago and absolutely love it. It takes quality pictures but more importantly it is super durable. I like to take pictures wherever I go and this compact camera provides a convenient size wrapped up in quality and tough exterior. What makes this camera one of my favorites is the versatility of it. I can truly take it anywhere because it is shockproof, waterproof, freeze proof and crush proof. I have taken it and used it underwater multiple times and it creates great underwater pictures. I have also taken it skiing and used and dropped in the snow many times. It has been dropped so many times that I have lost count of that on many different surfaces such as concrete and tile and it still works like a dream. I have not crushed it yet just to prove its durability but I am sure if it got ran over accidentally somehow it would still work just fine, but I do not intend on testing this just to see. The price tag for such a dependable and quality camera was also quite impressive too. I still use this camera often in places I do not trust taking my high quality professional level Nikon DSLR, however, my daughter loves taking pictures too. She is three now so I do not trust giving her just a regular digital camera as I am afraid she would break it the first day but I am fully comfortable letting her use this camera with no worry of anything happening to it. I like that they have added the option of the camera accepting SD cards as well as the xD memory cards exclusive to Olympus making it easier to transfer pictures. It does still have its own style battery specific to the camera that is rechargeable. The battery life has decreased over time but still acceptable.

this camera has been dropped, frozen, and in the ocean

I LOVE my Olympus Tough camera. The name says it all "Tough." My camera has been in harsh midwest winters with freezing temps and lots of snow and still preforms well. Especially with the "snow" option. The camera has been dropped quiet a few times and besides a few cosmetic bumps works well still. Originally though I bought the camera to take on a trip to Florida. I wanted something waterproof I could take into the ocean with me and this camera was it. It was easily cleaned too and the pictures turned out crystal clear, even in the water! Image Quality The images were super sharp and clear to an unprofessional eye like mine. However, it was kind of hard to get a good panoramic picture because the images always seemed misaligned. This may be fixed with practice however. Performance To me this camera does everything I need it to and more which is why I rated the performance at a ten. Ease of Use If you just use it to point and shoot, the camera is super easy to use. Once you start looking at all the functions, photo types, and things like that it got a little harder. I wasn't always sure which filter I should have been using. But even by guessing the pictures still turned out nice. Durability Dropped, frozen, and submerged in water AND it still works. To me the TOUGHT Olympus camera is durable Battery Life The battery life on this camera was better than my old one. I can use it for a few days without recharging too. Portability Too big to fit comfortably in my back pocket. It does come with a wrist strap and fits perfect in my purse or clutch. It isn't that big and doesn't weigh much so portable!

If you have children or like to be outdoors, get this.

This camera can take a licking and keep on clicking. Very tough and durable yet takes great pictures. My sons can't destroy it, it has been underwater on multiple occasions, yet can still function normally at a family function. Image Quality Here is where it will score the lowest marks. Being a tough and durable camera, some of the image quality isn't there. You can get other cameras for a similar price that will snap crisper clearer pictures. But they won't hold up in the places that this thing can so it is a bit of a trade off. I think the pictures still look great. But compared to other points and shoots, they aren't quite as good. Performance This camera has never let me down. Can always take great shots no matter where you are. Doesn't take long to start, doesn't take long for the flash to warm up. Snaps pics relatively quick. All the performance you need in a point and shoot is right here in a tough little package. Ease of Use The camera is fairly easy to use. But I have found it changed setting once or twice and I had issues trying to get it back to where I wanted it. The menu and setting navigation or pretty easy to follow. Just some of the things should be a little easier to adjust. All in all, not bad or hard to use. Durability My kids have thrown and dropped this camera. It has been in salt water and in fresh water. I have fallen on it while trying to snow board. It has been at the bottom of my wifes purse for days on end. Except for a few scratches this thing still performs like new. Battery Life Battery life on this camera is great. However It will read full for a long time then when the battery dies quickly after you loose the first bar. Portability Easily fits in my pockets, my wife's purse, or the glove box of a car. Not bulky like DSLR's. So I would say this is very portable.

I have enjoyed this camera because of the versatility but the photo quality is not the best. Image Quality The photo quality is not the best. Ease of Use Pretty self explanatory. Not as fast as I would like though. Durability This is an incredibly durable camera. I love the fact that I can catch underwater shots and it is the main reason I keep it, even though I have other cameras.

Olympus catches the Kodak moment

Last month I got this camera from a friend and was confused on the brand Olympus. Not ever heard of this brand or used it I wasn't sure what to expect. But of course it took to my surprise its a lot better than the Samsung Camera I had owned. This Olympus Touch 8000 Digital Camera is like my best friend! The photo quality are amazing for indoor or outdoors, even under water! It is simple to use and even fun! I have gotten so many  good comments on this camera its not even funny. This camera works wonders, the pictures are great and the camera is extremely durable. The battery could cause problems but of course every camera eats up all the energy. This camera is so simple to use even my kids didnt need help with it. It connects to the computer and makes everything more simple. Its a perfect size and fits in my pockets! I would so recommend this camera because it has made me so happy!!!!!!

Stylus Tough 8000 by Olympus a must have for the active person

4

This camera is a must have item! I have a tendency to drop or break things along with being an active person. We researched cameras to decide, which point and shoot camera we really wanted. I wanted one which was Tough...Olympus delivered. Features: - Shockproof to 6.6ft: Fabulous for the non-graceful like me who drops a lot of things. Trying to juggle the camera out of while holding a baby...no worries the camera is okay! - Waterproof to 33ft: See picture below taken in the pool - 12 MGP: great resolution of pictures - turn out great when printed - Lens  3.6x optical wide zoom, 5.0-18.2mm 1:3.5-5.1 - Freezeproof to 14°F/-10°C: This was great for skiing or climbing in Colorado. I did not have to worry about the cold temperatures affecting it while in my pocket. - Tap control: can be turned on when you cannot use your fingers easily (like skiing) and you can tap a certain side of the camera to take the picture. - Can withstand up to 220 pounds of pressure: I can keep it in my pocket and sit on it - 2.7 inch LCD screen: I think this is a great size to view any other pictures I take outdoors, underwater, skiing - Uses an xD/microSD card: This is a downside because you cannot switch the card out with other cameras that most use an SD card. So, it is a specific memory card to purchase. - Dual image stabilization - Dimension 3.7"W x 2.4"H x 0.85"D (95mm x 61.7mm x 21.5mm) according to Olympus' website - Weight 6.4oz (182g) without batteries and memory card according to Olympus' website - Video with audio It has a lot of helpful settings that make getting the shot the first time great. I love the sports setting which allows me to take fast moving pictures of my dogs or Amish buggies on vacation. The snow setting is helpful to take those snowman pictures with the family not over-exposed. It also has underwater settings to use. The delay between pressing the take button and when the camera takes a pictures is a little slow at times unfortunately depending on the setting. Auto seems to take faster than sports mode using the flash. Sports mode not using the flash takes just as quickly as the auto setting does. Typical with most point and shoot cameras it does have poor picture quality in low lighting & it also picks up the moisture in the air pretty well. The video quality is good as well. I keep the camera in my purse to capture both video & still moments while on the go! This is a great point and shoot camera with excellent outdoor/good light pictures & lots of other features that will keep this camera around for a long time due to its durability.

great for outdoor

I got this camera because I'm a outdoor person, I spend alot of time climbing, swimming, and moutain biking. This is one tough camera, probably the only one that can with stand some beating. I have dropped couple of times, and took pictures while swimming. This supposely can withstand a drop of close to 7 feet, but I wouldn't try it just to see if it really can. Picture wise, it's not that great. The shutter speed is too slow for fast action scene. It also comes with numerous predefined scene. It also supports tap control that you can tap on the camera for functions, very useful if you wear a glove. This isn't touch screen however. The build quality is awesome, it does not feel cheap at all. It's a bit heavy and larger than most point and shoot these days, but it's still good to carry around. If you don't really need to shoot under water, I don't see the need to get this camera, especially with its price. Unless you drop stuff all the time, this would be a benefit.

a unique camera

4

This camera is very unique and a little different from other cameras that are available on the market. I was attracted to the thin model and how the whole body of the camera looked. I love that the size of the camera makes it easy for me to carry in my purse or my pocket when i do not have my purse with me. The battery is long lasting, but the charge time takes a while. The touch screen was a feature that i loved about this camera. I also like the fact that i am able to get it wet. I am always at the pool or beach and having a camera i can use near the water is great. The screen for viewing is large and i can clearly see the exact picture that i am taking. The camera is very child friendly because even when they children use it and are clumsy with it, they camera does not break. the zoom feature is great and it works very well. connecting the camera to my computer in order to print or share pictures is very easy to do.

Olympus Tough is not waterproof!

2

So we purchased this camera only to be used underwater.  I already have a Nikon D90 that I use for all my photography but wanted something a bit better than a disposable camera when we go on trips to the Caribbean.   We brought this camera to Turks and Caicos and on our snorkeling trip.  I took it into the water and it wouldn't turn on.  The guy next to me in the water had an identical camera and the same issue!  Both of our screens flooded and that was that, 2 brand new Olympus cameras that stopped working the second they hit the water.  I made sure it was completely sealed before heading into the ocean, but apparently it doesn't matter.  I do give props to Olympus for sending me out a replacement (8010) less than 2 weeks after contacting them.  I missed so many good picture taking opportunities in TCI because my camera malfunctioned.  I'm glad to have the replacement, but I'm not so sure I'll try it in the water again.  Given that it's the only reason I own one of these, it's a pretty useless, quite expensive camera for my purpose.
