This is a great camera and a wonderful value for the money. Day time pictures and night pictures are clear. Many menu choices to help you get the best picture possible for what ever the scene is. The software for the pc that comes with the camera is great and easy to use. It will help you make very professional photos. This camera can be used for underwater photos and catchs clear photos of moving objects. It can also take small videos. I would buy this camera again and again. I have taken many pictures in various settings and have not been disappointed with any of them. If you are concidering a camera this is one to concider. You will not be dissappointed.

After having lost my Sony DSC P100, a really nice and compact camera, I looked for a replacement and bumped into the Olympus µ 790 SW by pure chance. In spite of being a less "professional" camera I instantly fell in love with it because you could go swimming with it right out of the box. I used to have an underwater house for my Sony which was useful but cumbersome, being able to use the camera under water without the bulk and extra work of  an underwater house seemed great - and it is. (The waterproofing also helps when friends spill Bailey's on the camera, which happened once so far.) Picture quality is not up to the Sony DSC P100 and the extra 2 Mpx (the Olympus is at 7.1 Mpx and the Sony at 5 Mpx) don't give me much extra but the camera is quite portable and very easy to use. The things I miss the most are a manual mode (for consistent exposures when doing panoramas and for long exposures at night - the night mood works very well though) and automatic adjustment of the time for daylight saving time (DST), the latter was missing in the Sony too. Next time I would probably consider the better protected model (today that would be Olympus µ Tough-8000, but the older Olympus µ 1030 SW would probably do too) since going down below 3 m when snorkling can happen, but going below 10 m, which is the limit for the better protected models, would be very rare.   All in all the Olympus µ 790 SW is a very nice camera that can easily be brought anywhere and in almost any weather condition.

The Olympus Stylus 790SW Digital Camera is the best digital camera I have ever owed. I have been thru 4 Sony digital cameras that died on me within a year of purchase. After lots of research I found out that Olympus was making some great long lasting cameras that can be dropped and still work flawlessly. I would recommend the 790SW to any one, if this model isn't your cup of tea make sure to buy a Olympus model digital camera, they have a large selection for all different types of needs.

The Olympus Stylus has allowed me to take my camera anywhere and everywhere.  I am really hard on all of my electronic equipment and have broken many digital cameras in the past.  However, this camera has allowed me to go swimming, skiing, hiking, kyaking, partying, and so much more.  It has great quality and is easy to use.

I have 2 SLR digital cameras and love them.  But both were too bulky to carry on an overseas trip where I wanted to pack light but still get lots of quality photos.  After searching through the camera aisles, I finally settled on the Olympus Stylus 790SW.  I'm thrilled with my choice.  It has a clear view of the photo that will be stored--no surprises.  Two features are dear to me--the one to help the shaking hand 8^) and the feature that lets you focus on your subject, move the camera slightly, and shoot.  This gives me the appearance of SLR.  With the 1g xd card (purchased separately) I can store tons of photos and easily carry several extra of these cards.   This camera is also protected from water--such as dropping it in a puddle--and from bumping and banging it gets subjected to in my purse.  The connections are completely enclosed, keeping the occasional raindrop from shorting out the camera--my other cameras are not so carefully protected. I have not been attracted to Olympus cameras in the past but am in love with this little camera. I will be using it more and more.

I love this camera it takes great pictures, but in the sun it is hard to see the lcd screen. I wish it had the view finder on it. This camera really is shock proof and water proof. I live near the ocean and i have kids so it really derable and great for parents!

I have been taking underwater photos for more than 25 years and find this small, simple to use camera a great companion for sailing, windsurfing and snorkling trips and well as skiing and other outdoor activities where snap shots will do. The picture quality is fine and the features (movie, snow etc) are most of what snap shot photographers need. Cons:The zoom is only 3x and it has no view finder making it difficult to frame a picture in very bright light. Not very useful for scuba diving since it is limited to 10 ft underwater. Bottom line...always have it with you on vacation. I keep it in my brief case.
