Olympus - E-510 Digital Camera —

This is my first DSLR and I bought this with much expectation and lot of fear. Although the camera seems to be delivering as promises it lacks support from users as there are very few users out there. And as a begining to professional protography you would need more support. It seems the rivals from Canon and Nikon are the winners in this segment.

Still its not that difficult to master this SLR and you can start shooting pro pictires within no time. The only thing that bothers me though is its lack of good lenses available in market. The only compatible lense its thier own series of zuiko and they are damn expensive. The regular lense manufacturers support mostly Canon, Nikon or Pentax. Its too bad. I bought it with its two lense kit and am happy with that, but sometimes I wish I had more telephoto lense than just 150mm. So I am waiting for my pocket to allow me to buy one.

Other than this the image quality is damn good. The greatest feature is its Sensot Shift Image Stabilization. Its rocks.

I own an Olympus E-410 DSLR. I have to agree about the cost of the lenses. I would love a 200-300mm lens but I just can't afford it. Guess I should've researched a bit more before making a purchase.

Obviously you haven't seen dpreview.com where there is a large worldwide community of E510 users willing to help with all your questions. For the price the E510 is the best on the market

I have been researching cameras for 2 months now. I own a Canon Rebel Ti film camera (6 +/- years old now) and it takes fantastic pictures. I have taken wonderful travel, landscape, winter scenes, action, etc. with my Canon and have been extremely pleased. I have been looking to upgrade to a digital. I have been leaning towards the Olympus Evolt E510 (or E410 depending on my budget at time of purchase.), even though my Canon lenses will fit a new Canon digital. You are correct the lenses can be quite expensive buying the Zuiko, however, it looks like their are other lenses that can fit. Sigma and Panasonic also make the 4/3 lenses. I also found where someone used a Opteka macro filter lens(?). Check out imaging resource, dpreview, pop photo, etc. Also, B & H photo has always been helpful answering questions even when I do not purchase from them. Good Luck. Jenny
