Oahu Review Summary

Visitors to Hawaii almost always travel to Oahu, the island that includes the state capital city of Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, and other attractions. Reviewers enjoy Oahu for its history, friendly people, and beaches- especially world famous Waikiki Beach, adjacent to Honolulu. “Aloha! Delight Your 5 Senses- or more!”, is how one reviewer describes this island, while another says “Incredible Beauty that is Hard to Put Into Words”. About the only negative aspect of Honolulu is the over- commercialization which has led to crowded beaches and attractions. But other than this small complaint, reviewers highly recommend Oahu as a Vacation Destination

Bottom-Line: A lot to do, and so little time to do them in.

I can still remember like it was yesterday, the instructor sailing into the room and casually asking which one of us young newly anointed sailors wanted to go to Hawaii for our first tour of duty (I was stationed in Pensacola, Florida at the time).  We would be riding submarines, but we'd be in paradise, in Hawaii, and what could be better than that.  My arm immediately shot up; it had always been my dream to visit Hawaii, and now I was going to be afforded the chance to live there for two years.  And so I was picked.  Hawaii, Hawaii...

Oahu has everything...the crowds in Waikiki remind you that you're in a popular place with tons of shopping from bargains and souveniers at International Marketplace to shops that parallel Rodeo Drive.  You can grab your own piece of the beach and float around on hte bay, take a catamaran cruise and sip a mai tai, learn to surf and later take in sunsets and a view of Diamond Head you can't see anywhere else.  Head over to the Royal Hawaiian for the most famous mai tai's on all the islands and catch dinner at one of dozens of wonderful restaurants - each with their own ambience and distintive...

Oahu was one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited. The crowdedness is around Waikiki and Honolulu but once you get out and explore the other areas of the island, it is gorgeous. We were surrounded by the open sea one moment, then riding thru mountains the next moment. There are so many interesting sites to visit and the beauty is just overwhelming. We loved waking before sunrise and going to the beach to watch the sunrise, and then going to the other side of the island in the evening to watch the sunset. We never had bad service, and the aloha spirit was everywhere. My husband's dream... review »
