About a year ago, I decided to try a recipe that I had been wanting to make for a long time, Chicken Francais.  It required the use of a meat tenderizer and I didn't have one, so I went out and bought the **OXO Good Grip Meat Tenderizer**.  This kitchen tool has proven to be very handy, it just has one downside.

Besides my own fault of washing this tool in the dishwasher, it is perfect and I love it!  Every cook needs to have some Good Grip tools, and the meat tenderizer is a great one!

Ease of Cleaning
This product has worked very well for me.  The only problem that I have experienced, just might be my own fault, so I can't blame the product - after washing the OXO Good Grip Meat Tenderizer in the dishwasher, white spots develop on the surface of the metal.  The flaw is completely cosmetic, but I'm still a little bummed.

Durability
I've owned this meat tenderizer for years and have not experienced any problems. It's a high-quality product made by a great company.

Design
This OXO Meat Tenderizer is part of the "Good Grips" line of products.  That means that it has a soft, rubber handle that is very comfortable to hold and provides an excellent grip on whatever you are holding.  When you're pounding a piece of meat, you want a comfy handle!
One end of the tenderizer is soft for pounding, like I needed to do with my chicken breasts for Chicken Francais.  The other side has the pronged bumps for tenderizing rough cuts of meat.

I bought this OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer a few months ago since the coating of my old meat pounder was wearing off. I would rate this tenderizer as just ok and I'm typically a big fan of OXO products.

I do lke the handle -- it is very very comfortable to hold. But I would have like for the pounders to be a bit larger since it would save some time when using it. They just seem a bit small since its used, of course, for pounding meat/chicken. But I think my biggest complaint is that its not dishasher safe. I bought this in haste, and just assumed it was --- it was clearly written that it wasn't on the label. Since it comes in contact with meat/chicken, I would have liked to have been able to put in the dishwasher,

I make lots of boneless chicken and often when I get home from the market, often the pieces aren't always the same thickness (or even close). For more uniform cooking, i often pound the chicken (using the smooth end) to even it out a bit. Or if I want to make a dish with thinner pieces of chicken.

So comfortable to hold, a bit small, but the biggest con not dishwasher safe.

Comments about OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer:

Grips well! Was unaware of the product not being dishwasher safe. When working with fresh meat, I would have thought it would be a normal way to clean it. All those grooves in the tenderizer part can hold meat particles. When put in the dishwasher all of the shiny silver came off and it is completely oxidized. I will try to return it as a defective piece or, will be thrown out!

One of The Best Dual-Sided Metal Tenderizers

By

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer:

The secret to getting juicy, evenly cooked chicken breasts is using a tenderizer to flatten the chicken so it cooks evenly. If you have ever wondered why baked, barbequed or fried chicken breasts have overcooked edges but yet a raw center, it's because of the unevenness of the breast. Using a tenderizer can help even out the breast so it cooks evenly and eliminates the need to 'over cook' it to get the center to turn from pink to white.

This is a dual sided tenderizer; one side is flat and the other has small points that stick out from the face of it. I use this on chicken mostly but the flat side is nice for smashing garlic, breaking up ingredients in plastic bags (excellent for graham crackers for pie crusts) and when I need smaller pieces of ice. The pointed side is what helps to level out the chicken breasts however it can be messy so if possible rinse the chicken and use paper towels to try them before you start using the tenderizer on them.

When I am grilling meat I like to use the pointed side of the tenderizer to break the surface so that I can add spices or seasonings to the meat and allow it to penetrate. If you are going to use a marinade you need to tenderize it first because trying to do it after it has been soaking is going to result in a mess.

The only downside to this is that the spiked side needs to be scrubbed by hand to make sure that all of the meat is out from between the sections. The flat side is easy to clean but you really need to scrub the spiked side. I usually use a toothbrush to go through all of the sections; when I did put this in the dishwasher once I ended up with food stuck to the spiked side and then had to let it soak for about a half hour and then scrub it by hand.

I like that it is a solid metal tenderizer; it is well made and the one that I have has been in use for over five years.

Very effective for flattening chicken breasts

By

Comments about OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer:

The OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer is a great little kitchen gadget. I used mine quite frequently for flattening chicken breasts and it is very effective at flattening the chicken. I find that the OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer works best when the chicken is placed on a flat surface (like the kitchen counter) and then there is a sheet of plastic that is placed over the chicken. I find that I do not want to concentrate the meat tenderizer in one place. If I do, little bits of the chicken start to break off because the OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer is that good at flattening and tenderizing the chicken. I am very impressed with the quality of this meat tenderizer. It stands up to frequent use and is dishwasher safe. This is an important feature for kitchen gadgets that come in contact with raw meat. Overall I am very impressed with the OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer and highly recommend that others add it to their kitchen. It is a time saver and it gives great results!

A heavy duty double sides meat tenderizer made by Oxo

By

from USA

Comments about OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer:

The Oxo Good Grips Meat Tenderizer is a really good kitchen tool. It is heavy enough to get the job done. It has two sides, one flat and one dimpled, for whatever job you need it for.

Ease of Cleaning
I would recommend hand cleaning as the space between the good grips handle and the metal top collect food. I have had it come out of the dishwasher with food particles still stuck in that area. This is really my only complaint with this gadget.

Durability
This is sturdy and well built. It is very durable.

Design
This is designed well and operates exactly as it should

Pound Away with the OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer:

My husband is the big meat-eater in our family and the OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer is his current tool of choice. I had never owned nor used one of these funny looking hammer-type tools until I met him. His previous meat tenderizer hammer (as I call it) had seen better days so I surprised him with this brand new OXO tenderizer well over a year ago. He uses it about once per week on average and it does a great job. The OXO brand is well-known for its quality and this is another high-quality product from them. The only issue that I have with this is that it is not dishwasher-safe.

Ease of Cleaning
While my husband is great at preparing meals, I am the one who gets stuck cleaning the dishes. Unfortunately for me, this tenderizer is a pain to clean. The meat gets stuck into the grooves so it takes some time and effort to get it completely clean.

I would prefer to put this into the dishwasher because I feel like the dishwasher does a better job at cleaning items that touched raw meat, however, this product is NOT dishwasher-safe. My husband did wash it once in the dishwasher and while it did not rust, the shiny sheen is gone and has been replaced by a gray-colored abrasive surface. Oops.

Durability
This has been very durable, especially considering how much it's been banged around.

Design
The design is good. The handles are comfortable to hold and the tenderizer top is heavy enough for some good pounding action without making the user's arms ache.

OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer does job, but not dishwasher safe

Like Any Other

Comments about OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer:

This is a good product (as most OXO gadgets are), but so simplistic I do not see spending the extra money on the OXO brand as a good investment. The handle is the usual Good Grips comfy design and the head has a nice weight to it, which aids in pounding you selection of meat or poultry.

Though I don't often need this gadget, it is handy to have around and does it's job well. My biggest gripe is that it is a pain to clean. As others have mentioned, machine washing is far from ideal. I also found that bits of meat get stuck in the tenderizing end of the hammer head, which makes it a bit difficult to completely clean. I guess this is to be expected though. The flat side is also useful if you are looking to get something flat (like chicken breast).

Overall, another good OXO product, but probably not worth the name brand price.
