OXO Good Grips Ice Cream Scoop —

My husband is an ice cream addict so we got thru a lot of ice cream in our house. He's so much of an addict that he usually just eats it directly from the container, which is fine by me as I'm not so much of a fan.  But once in a while we get a flavor that I'm crazy about so he refrains from the double dipping routine and scoops it into a bowl.

He usually uses a kitchen spoon for that though which annoys me because the spoon handles always end up bent.  So recently I was out shopping somewhere and saw the OXO Good Grips Ice Cream Scoop on sale for about $8 so I bought it.  I have other Good Grips products and have been happy with them so I thought it would be a good addition to our kitchen gadget drawer.

OXO has a few different types of ice cream scoops.  The one I bought is item #21291 which is called the trigger scoop.  It has a little trigger on the side which controls a little wiper thing on the inside of the scoop that is supposed to pop the ice cream out of the scoop and into one's bowl, cone, etc.  The first time I used the scoop the wiper thing didn't work at all. I had to use a spoon to scoop the ice cream out of the scoop.  That was annoying.

But what's really annoying is that I used the scoop a few nights ago and the wiper thing completely fell off of the scoop.  And the ice cream was fairly soft too which baffles me.  My husband brought some ice cream home and it sat on the counter for about 20 minutes while we put the rest of the groceries away. So by the time we scooped it, it was kind of soft so it's not like the wiper could have been broken by really super frozen ice cream.

The only good thing about this scoop is the Good Grips handle which is made of black rubber. It feels good in the hand and the rubberized texture keeps it from slipping around so it's easy to scoop.... it just breaks and you can't get the ice cream out of it!

So the OXO Good Grips scoop was a big waste of money.  We purchased a Zyliss scoop yesterday and tried it today and it works way better.

I'm surprised, I also have a few items from OXO and have been very happy with their products. Could be a quality control issue. (someone asleep at the machine). I would call and explain the situation, I'm sure they would check into it and do something to make you happy.

You should try a dipper that has the warming liquid in the handle...we own one from Pampered Chef and it's fantastic!

Believe me, it's a rare occasion :) We generally don't agree on the same ice creams so we double dip our own, but if it's Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie, it must be scooped because we both love that one.

How kind of him not to double dip for you :) I'm not sure if we have a scoop or not. Hmm I'll have to check. We don't usually do a lot of ice cream around our house though, so the occasional spoon use isn't a big deal.

Bummer this one didn't work out though... usually OXO has really good products.
