There are two excellent seafood places in Fort Lauderdale, one being the 15th Street Fishery and the other The Old Florida Seafood House. The last time I had been to the latter was when Terry and Chuck were down here so last night was a treat due to Shirley, Boodles and Pepper--the former gave me a gift certificate for taking care the of the latter two when she was away on a trip. The Old Florida Seafood House opened in 1977 and I have been going there since 1979 and the prices, as much seafood, have really changed since then but the quality of the food hasn't. Considering we are by the ocean I am surprised at how many seafood places, yes, the chains included, serve frozen fish with a few exceptions and Old Florida is one of them. The restaurant has 3 different, distinct rooms the first being as you enter where the clam bar is. Going to the left is a large bar with surrounding tables for dining and then there is the main dining room where most of the sitting is. We arrived just after the 'earlybird' eaters were getting finished so, it also being a Monday night and off season, the place wasn't that busy. We were too late for the earlybird, which is really a good deal, including salad, soup and dessert along with a beverage along with the main course and is served until 6:30. The service was top notch as always. As soon as we were seated we were greeted by the waitress who then proceeded to get our drinks and a basket of bread served with a crock of butter and immediately after taking our order came back with our salads. Allen had the Shellfish Marinara while I had the High Roller. Both dishes are the same with shrimp. lobster and scallops served over a big bed of linguine with the difference being he had a red sauce while mine had a cream sauce. Both were served with the house signature fried zucchini spears which are succulent with each bite. The pasta dishes had more than enough scallops and shrimps with a very big shelled lobster tail and tasted great. We passed on dessert--no, it wasn't that we were being good but we had already decided to go to Dairy Queen which was a few blocks away. I did fumble with the check embarrassing myself by not leaving enough money! The bill had come to $65 and, for some reason, I had not only not given the waitress enough money to cover the difference between the gift certificate and the check but I, also, didn't include a tip!!! I eventually got it straightened out and left her a $15 tip--talk about making a major mistake!!! :O)
