I love OkCupid. It's incredibly interactive and conducive to not only meeting potential partners, but connecting to new friends. I have developed some really close relationships with people, some who I've never met in person but keep in contact with the journaling feature, and some who have developed into almost-weekly hangouts. I met my new roommate on there. Its name indicates that it's for dating, but I've found that the people and the site's founders are very flexible and very fun. There are many activities and ways to interact with people. They have user-organized meetups.

Honestly, I can't imagine spending money on some formalized "scientific" internet dating site. Develop connections on your own terms and let them happen naturally. OkCupid is perfect for that (however, not without some flaws, but hey, it's free... and the staff is incredibly accessible for when you want to address these issues). I love it and plan to use it even when I find my future partner. I've made too many friendships to let it go.
