Very rarely do I ever feel so strongly about something. O, The Oprah Magazine is leaps and bounds above every other magazine on the shelf in its category. In the art and fashion world, which is my personal background, I look for the "one", the trend setter, the changer of the status quo that inevitably everyone else copies in one form or another, until finally the most watered down version ends up at Target.
O, The Oprah Magazine is exactly that. It is the real deal, the genuine article. In a category where most publications print insipid banter, this magazine actually handles subject matters that people can use, digest and to which they can refer back. Subjects vary from interviewing political candidates, to offering information on career advancement, to offering numerous self-health and self-awareness tools, to offering commentary by experts in the field of writing, music, the arts, health and more.
What I appreciate in O, the Oprah Magazine is the interest of the magazine in assisting the reader in identifying problems areas in a life situation and then suggesting ways to actually change these problems areas for the better. It doesn't talk down to the reader or push off some feeling of inadequacy. While you may like Dr. Phil or not ( personally can't stand him) or you may agree with Lisa Novak or not ( um, no thanks) or Martha Beck ( yep!) - all monthly featured writers, it doesn't detract from the overall mission of this magazine- to actually contribute something positive and insightful - which rises above a pool of rather pointless periodicals.
