A friend brought me several magazines one day and one of them was O' The Oprah Magazine.  I will read anything once and if I don't care for it I don't care to read it again.  I didn't care much for Oprah's magazine, maybe because I don't care much for Oprah anymore.  I use to love her show when she first started on tv, she had real people, real stories, stories that kept you wanting to make sure you didn't miss her show.  Over the years as she got more famous and a lot richer, I think her whole attitude has changed.  I have stopped on her show while clicking through the channels looking for something interesting to watch a few times.  Now I don't watch it everyday so this is based on just the few times I have caught a little of her show.  So I don't need anyone jumping down my throat on this.  But in my opinion her show now is just about who's who and not oridinary people.  It's the emmy winners, the rich sport figures, her friend Gale, and sad to say mostly about African Americans.  She has just about lost any story lines on other races, nationalities.  Oh you might see Martha Stewart, (rich and famous) or the Osmonds family (rich and famous) so I don't want to read "Her" magazine or sign up on "Her" book club, I don't want to know what Christmas gifts Oprah likes to buy.  That is all you see anymore, emails out the, well you know, on look at what Oprah likes, check out this, It is was seen on Oprah, like that makes it special.  Check out this diet plan as seen on Oprah.  Well if I had Oprah's money, and could hire a trainer and a nutritionist to prepare all my meal, then who needs diet pills.  No offense to anyone, but nothing of Oprah's appeal to me, especially her O magazine.

I subscribed the first 2 years because it was affordable, then the price went up and on a fixed income, I could no longer afford it. It seems to me it's in her contract to have her on the cover; but dang, if she owns the company, who wrote the contract?

My views are not quite as negative as yours because she is quite a humanitarian; and honestly, it is none of my business how she spends her money. However, I did get a bit affronted the day she visited a Walmart. The first thing she did was to ask how in the world she was supposed to enter that tiny door (the one where the shopping carts are pushed into). Did that sound just a bit like Jessica Simpson? Then once in the store she went to the bra section which was cordoned off, much as if it were a crime scene, and no one was allowed inside the taped area. She held up several bras and pretended to now know that you could actually come to a store like this and purchase a bra! The real clincher for me was when she talked with any of the Walmart employees, who, by the way all wear name tags with their names on them; she called them, "you, the one with the blue vest on". I found that episode most insulting and degrading. Maybe I'm too sensitive and should have just gone with the flow and enjoyed the program, but like you, I hardly ever watch anymore.

I do like Oprah, but I'm not a fan of the mag. Way too many ads. Pretty self centered to put out a mag with your own pic on the cover every month.
