Cockatiels make wonderful pets. They are intelligent, affectionate, and easy to care for. Each bird has it's own personality ranging from noisy and very out going to more reserved and quiet. They are good around kids and other pets and provide hours of entertainment. They come in a variety of color...

I think cocatiels are wonderfull birds. They could be your best friend or your worst enemy. If you abuse them once, they will never forget or forgive, as I have heard. They come in beautiful colors and are Nice most of the time. He dances and can imitate sounds and words! They MAY bite strangers but... review »

This is one of the friendliest birds, and has one of the sweetest demeanor.  Therefore I think they are a great choice for older children.  A few other good points they are a lot of fun, and can be entertained, and entertaining by the simplest things.  For instance when I have ours at my desk,  I'll dump the paper clips and she'll run around picking each of them up and putting them back into the basket.  It's one of the many little games we play.

Another great factor with a cockatiel is they are one of the quieter birds.  Don't get me wrong, ours still...

A Cockatiel is a low maintenance and cost-friendly pet. I have two cockatiels and the most costly item was their cage. They are both very friendly and my male can talk. They will sit on my shoulder and when I let them out  to fly around to get their exercise they will land right by us on the couch and walk on us. They love their toys and millet sprays along with their birdseed, which I buy in bulk to save money. I would reccommend a cockatiel to anyone who would like a low maintenance pet. It is best to NOT clip their wings and to let them out of their cages daily for time to fly so they can... review »

I never pictured myself having birds, but a friend of mine found a cockatiel in his back yard years ago and gave him to me. The bird had obviously been mistreated, because he tried to bite me, and at first, I had to handle him with thick garden gloves. With a lot of patience and time, though, we became very good friends. I added a female to our little flock. When my male bird passed away, I was devastated, but then rescued another male cockatiel.
They are amazing birds, miniature parrots from Australia. The males are excellent singers and like to vocalize. Cockatiels are very curious and affectionate...

I have had my cockatiel for over 17 years now.  I got him when he was 8 weeks old and had no idea how long they live.  A cockatiel can live upwards of 25 years.  A good rule of thumb, the larger the bird, the longer they live.  A parrot can live for 50-60 years.

Mine has been a good pet over the years, and has gotten along with the many other animals in my house, including my cats and dogs.  Mine was hand fed as a baby and pretty much doesn't really know he is a bird.

He is friendly and usually picks one person he connects with the best - has been a few people over the year and usually...

I have never owned a bird until just last month... For my daughter's birthday, I bought her a parakeet.  She just loves her bird.  My son was jealous and wanted a bird... So he got a cockatiel... Then we ended up getting another parakeet... These birds are so much fun, although they are all 3 still scared of us.  I have been working with the cockatiel mostly... Who we call Pepe...Got some books on how to train them.... After only 3 or 4 days,  I have stopped the bitting... He still hisses at everyone else.... But I have been spending every evening after work with the cockatiel, and I think...

I have two cockateils.  One is anti-social, but the other is very freindly.  She flys to the tp of my head and talks to me.  She tells me she is a "pretty bird", then whistles at me!!  She's a great pet.
