Nuby Sippy Cup Is Great for Beginners, but a Pain to Clean

3

I always start my babies on sippy cups at six months old. I found these Nuby sippy cups and was hoping that I had found a new model for my baby to try. He liked it immediately, but I get sick of cleaning it out. In. In order to wash it, you have to remove the entire soft-nippled section off the top to wash it, and then reattach it. The dishwasher doesn't really reach all of the nooks and crannies of the nipple, so I have to use a clean toothbrush to thoroughly clean it. Putting the top back on is also a pain. You have to tuck certain parts of the soft plastic in other parts and if you don't want the sippy cup spilling all over the place. It is easy to get it bent or pinched, in which case the liquid inside will spill all over your baby. The advantages this cup has is that it has a large capacity (10ounces), so I could even fill it with formula when I needed to, and it it is relatively inexpensive compared to other beginner sippy cups.

The One That Worked!

5

This sippy cup is the first kind that my daughter would actually drink out of. I tried every kind of sippy cup available and she refused to drink out of any of them except for this one. She will now drink out of most sippy cups, but this is the one that we made a breakthrough with. The soft silicone spout is more like a nipple on a bottle than some of the other cups with harder spouts. My daughter didn't have to suck as hard to get a sip from this cup. It doesn't leak or spill and it comes in bright colors. Another good thing about this sippy cup are the side handles that make it easier for a baby to pick up and sip from. I would recommend this cup to anyone with a little one, especially one that is having a hard time transitioning from a bottle to a sippy cup.

It might not spill, but it sure does leak.

Water does not spill out the nipple when tipped (i.e., when baby is drinking), but water leaks out the side of the lid when the cup is tipped (e.g., in diaper bag or sometimes even when baby is drinking). I would NOT recommend this item. I didn't give it 1 star, because it is still a safe item. But I gave it only 2 stars, even though I like the nipple softness and shape (in fact, the softness and shape of the entire top of the cup) because it's more like a mother's breast, so in that regard it was better than the Gerber cup that I tried.

Worked Really Well!

I know all babies are different, so I can understand why some people would have a negative experience with a product and others would have a positive experience. I had a positive experience. I switched my son from a bottle to these sippy cups at 4-months. It was a little messy at first because he would let some of it drip out of his mouth, but after 2 days, he was drinking from it like a pro. These cups have thinner handles than all of the other sippy cups that I tried, which made these easier for my sons tiny hands. On rare occassion, they did leak, but it was always when I didn't have the lid on just right, the spout wasn't secure, or I overfilled the cup (These cups say in the instructions that you can only fill them 3/4 of the way full). If you buy these, make sure you read the instructions for the reassembling the spout because it shows a really easy way. (I didn't do this at first, and it took me awhile to get the spout back in.) The Nuby cups come in a variety of fun colors. I have to admit that I liked mixing and matching the lids and cups. It looked like he always had a different cup. Another thing that I like about these cups, is that Nuby also makes a bigger sippy cup with no handles, but it has the same spout. I felt like it helped my son when he transitioned from the cups with handles to ones without. So far, my experience with the brand has been good, and I still buy "Nuby" products.

Great choice for breastfed babies who don't have teeth yet

I am trying to wean my 7 month old daughter from breastfeeding. I have tried the platex nursing bottles and she won't take to them. I have been using these Nuby no spill cups with sillicone spouts. They are so soft and easy to clean. They are dishwasher safe. My daughter has been drinking out of them. I have introduced this nuby sippy cup over several weeks. At first she would just play with it and bite it. But eventually she got the hang of it.She would not take to the harder sippy cups. It has the easy hold handles to help teach her how to hold a cup. We love these sippy cups!!! You have to make sure the sillicone tops are lined up correctly in order for thehandles to be placed correctly and not leak. That is the only time I've had a leak is when it's not lined up correctly. They are more expensive than other brands, but they work for us. Need to point out that if your baby has teeth, they will chew through the silicone spout and it will spill out very fast. I jut noticed this, so she can't use anymore. I'm going to check out the website to see if they have replacements

Good for teaching baby sippee cup essentials.

I purchased this cup when my daugther turned six months old.  In the beginning I was wondering if she would ever understand how to use the handles, so we put it away for awhile.  Today, though, at seven and a half months, she is a BIG fan! As I feed her cereal, I give her an occasional sip.  She has gotten to the point where she grabs for the cup by herself, holds it by the handle and tips it into her mouth.  I love that! I do wonder, sometimes, if she gets enough liquid out of the tip, but she doesn't seem to complain.  I have also wondered, as she is beginning to develop teeth, if her new pearly whites will begin to tear at the silicone. For now, though, this cup works great.  It is meant to be a transition from bottle to cup and I think it's serving that purpose quite nicely.  It may be true that as she gets the hang of the cup concept I will move up to a cup without such a soft top - but I appreciate it at the moment.

This Nuby no-spill cup is the best cup if you are looking to get  your baby off the bottle...my daughter uses it for her 8 month old baby...it has two handles...easy for the baby to grab hold of and hold...the handles are much easier for a baby to hold then having to hold a bottle..the nibble is silicone and more shaped like a natural nipple and does not leak or callapse..the cups are dishwasher safe..and talk about easier to clean then baby bottles..no brushes needed to clean the cup or hard to reach spots...and of corse you can get in various colors and designs..great learning tool for babies to grab and hold...it is like weight and easy for baby to tip upwards..very affordable also...and another important fact..when baby drops the cup it will not break or leak all over..to sum it up...dishwasher safe...microwave safe..silicone nipple..non breakable...easy too clean..two easy grip handles..where was this when my kids were babies??  I highly reccomend all moms to get these cups get rid of them bottles......you will love it..

The Nuby sippy cup helps with the transition from bottle to cup

4

The Nuby sippy cup was a great help in our transition from bottle to cup. We tried numerous sippy cups only to find that this and 2 other brands were the only ones that seem to work well for us. At first it was just a play toy, but as she started to figure it out she did end up taking the basic top on the Nuby. I like that the tops are very soft, but thick so it doesn't hurt her teeth and will hold up to her chomping on it a bit while getting new teeth. There are a variety of sippy tops that will fit in the lids for this line, but for us only the traditional tops seem to work. If your baby likes bumpy tops for teething, they make those or straw type ones too, but the soft top in a straw shape didn't seem to hold up too well for us and the one with the bumps irritated her. Price point wise, this brand is a good one to experiment with since you are able to get 1 cup and then try multiple tops without investing a bunch of money. I also found that these cups are available in many stores so you can maximize the coupon opportunities saving additional money. If you are looking for a cup that will work and can't borrow a bunch from someone to try I would recommend looking at the Nuby line. The reason I give a 4 instead of a 5 is that compared to the 2 other brands that my daughter likes, these had the shortest life span in terms of keeping her interest. As for cleaning, they clean easily and it is easy to tell if you put them back together correctly too, which is important if you want to avoid leaks.

Nuby: Good sippy but leaks

4

These are one of the few sippys my daughter would drink.  We switched her from her beloved Born Free bottles at around 12 months.  What I love about the cup:  The handles are really easy for her to hold.  Most of the top of the cup is hard, just the nipple is soft.  Previous cups that we tried had an all soft top and it would just collapse.  When she is drinking the cup, it doesn't leak.  Seems to be spill proof when she throws it.   What I don't like about the cup:  It is very hard to screw together/take apart.  It is very hard to take the soft nipple out of the hard top to clean it.  It is even harder to get it back in.  If the cup is left on the floor which happens from time to time, liquid leaks out of the cup.    The price on these are very good and usually runs you about 7 for a set of two at the various baby stores.  We didn't have to try a lot of different sippies but she did prefer these over the Tommee Tippy and the Born Free ones.

Not effective

2

I bought this sippy cup because it looked colorful and it also claimed to be leak proof. I also thought it would be an easy transition from bottle to cup. The latter part was established partly because my daughter liked the look of the cup. But it did not live up to its reputation of being spill proof. Almost all the time the liquids from the cup would leak and spill onto my daugter's clothes.  IF it is not properly fitted, you can be rest assured that there will be leakage and it is a mess.  Also I found that it was not easy to assemble and it always took a little time to get the parts together. The only good thing about this product was its appearance and the two handles that are provided but I think these features are available in many other sippy cups. The price was also ok which is what prompted me to buy it. Overall just not happy with this product, I think there are enough varieties in the market to be able to skip this one.
