Norwegian Cruise Line - Star —
This was our first cruise leaving from Seattle (our home) to Alaska. The ship was clean and our room was comfortable (we had a cabin with a balcony so we could really enjoy the views).The free food was mediocre...we're used to really good food living here in Seattle and are a bit of a food snob. The food was on the scale of a Denny's or Country Buffet which we never eat at (too many better options in Seattle). So, we paid for the upscale food, which was quite good but way too expensive.
For entertainment, they offered bingo (boring), stupid humilate your spouse games, and karaoke (I was game, but hubby wasn't). We wanted to go dancing but the club where it was supposed to be was dead...we were the only people there! We were so bored that we spend a lot of money in the spa and on the wireless computer.
The majority of the passengers were over the age of 65 (no joke), so we felt uncomfortable with hardly anyone of our own age. I couldn't believe how many people were using walkers and those chair scooters!
The scenery was beautiful, but the port of calls were tourist traps...one shop after another selling the same junk. We had a better time heading to the outskirts of the towns and eating with the locals. Excursions were also quite spendy.
For a 7 day cruise, we ended up spending almost $4000.....so much more than we ever paid for a vacation (we just went to Europe for two weeks and spent less including the airfare!).
