frequent-cruiser, expecting good, fair service
NCL has been sold by the Norwegians to an Indonesian shipping company, who implemented and heavly promote "Freestyle Cruising." Actually, it is a cost cutting plan that reduces the number of waiters by extending the resturant operating hours with the expectation that fewer tables can be serviced if the guests arrive over a period of four hours instead of all guest being seated at the same time. NCL's Dream on a recent transatlantic cruise had 1,842 passengers serviced by a staff of only 705. Most cruise ships have a ratio of at least one employee for two passengers. …

We really liked the relaxed atmosphere. We could eat at one of the two main dining rooms any time during the dining hours. We would put our name on the list, then lounge in one of the nearby lounge areas until our name was called. It was much better than having an assigned table and time where you have to get in line with a huge crush of people before your assigned dining time. Our room steward gave excellent service.…

I often wonder, when I hear a negative review, just how fussy this person may be in writing their review. You may be wondering the same about me. I can honestly say that I've given this much thought, and felt compelled to write this review. — I have sailed on NCL's Majesty, twice, and although the ship had major issues (old and in dire need of renovation), I enjoyed both experiences. This year, Boston's ship is the Dream.(After the summer, I believe the ship will be sold to a cruise line in Greece.) I read many recent reviews before taking the cruise and had an open mind about not…

I am a 37 year old working mom that saved to bring my boys on a cruise. What a waste of money! Unless you dont mind eating hockey puck burgers, old hotdogs and fries... UGHHHH — This was sadly my first cruise that I took my 3 little boys on. I promised them all the things I had ever heard about cruises. Lots of great food, lavish deserts, swimming pools and fun. — We did not get any of those things! I lost 3 pounds on my cruise. The kids did not complain but they had to live on these dried up burgers and hotdogs the entire week. …

DO NOT GO ON THIS SHIP. MY GRANDMOTHER WAS ON THIS SHIP AND SLIPPED BY THE POOL. THEIR STAFF REFUSED TO OPEN THE MEDICAL CENTER FOR HER. WHEN THEY WERE FINALLY FORCED TO THEY TOLD HER SHE SPRAINED HER ARM (WHEN SHE CLEARLY TOLD THEM IT WAS HER NECK AND NOT HER ARM THAT HURT) AND WOULD NOT TREAT HER ANY FURTHER, THEY LEFT HER FOR OVER 24 HOURS WITH A FRACTURED SPINAL CORD WHEN SHE WAS FINALLY OPERATED ON HER NECK WAS IN HER BACK AND SHE IS NOW ON LIFE SUPPORT AND MAY NOT MAKE IT. —
WHEN THE BOAT DOCKED THEY WOULDNT EVEN LET HER OFF THE BOAT THEY TOLD US SHE WAS NOT A PRIORITY. DO…

Our 7th cruise, and we chose it for its value and that we only had to fly one way. I was skeptical because of the many poor or lukewarm reviews that had been published, but overall, the experience exceeded our expectations. The boarding was done in a prompt but disorganized fashion. The room was comfortable, and the food was only fair, even at the premium venue. Many times the food in the buffet was cold, but maybe because of the sanitary precautions which seem to have been recently instututed. The staff was pleasant, and sought to accomodate. — The absolute plusses for me included the…

expecting good, fair service, married, appreciative of good service, first-time cruiser, budget conscious, value conscious
My husband and I went on this cruise out of New Orleans as a second Honeymoon. The only good point of our cruise was the housekeepers were excellent. The entertainment was not that good and at time there was over an hour wait for a table in the resturants. Once we got our final bill we found out we were charged for things that we didn't use or order and had to push for the Manager to remove the incorrect…
