Northwest Air is Delta in name only

4

Imagine my surprise. I thought I was booking airline tickets on Delta to find out later that the were on what is called a sister airline. In this case I think it is the wicked step-sister. No maybe not that bad, It is just I expected the service and type of flight that we have always had on Delta. Service Booking was not difficult and check in at the airport not a issue. We did have trouble with their machine and finally someone came over to help us. The flight attendants were okay, nothing spectacular, nothing bad. I just got the feeling they were on their way home and had other things than the passengers on their minds. In-Flight Accommodations The plane was clean but all I could see was worn and shabby. In fact I was afraid that the plane was older than I am and wondered how long the nuts and bolts hang in there. The leg room was lacking and I felt somewhat like a sardine in a can. The plane was transatlantic and not totally filled so after takeoff, our seating pardoner kindly offered to change seats. Food was totally bad but then all airplane food sucks as far as I am concerned. My wife doesn't eat meat and takes fruit and such with her. I was jealous of her peanut butter crackers. All in all, not a bad flight, typical economy class. Nothing bad, nothing great.

What used to be

Northwest Airlines is the perfect example of the major airline carrier that used to be. For decades, Northwest Airlines was one of the premier airlines. Today, Northwest Airlines no longer exists as it has been taken over by Delta. Service Northwest Airlines had the quality customer service one would expect with a smaller airline. They offered service to a number of smaller regional airports instead of the neighboring major international airports (however, those options were available). Today, Delta Airlines offers a great selection of domestic and international flights, especially if you live in the greater Atlanta area. In-Flight Accommodations The in-flight accommodations that were offered with Northwest Airlines were on par with other major airlines at the time. There were snack and beverage selections available on most flights, as well as musical entertainment accommodations.

My Experience With Nwa Sums Up Why They Disappeared

3

I used to live in the metro Detroit area (1998-1999) when I decided to fly Northwest from Detroit to New York (roundtrip). I had trusted the airline to provide a short and good flight. However, I had one experience that forever changed my perception of the Midwestern-based airline which no longer exists. In 1998, I had flown from New York to Detroit on a flight that was already behind its previous schedule. Then, to top off the cake, the plane upon landing in Detroit, never made it to the proper gate to unload the passengers. The plane had to stop on the apron and then the passengers had to walk down a ladder and into the terminal. This was so embarrassing. While the airline gave me a voucher for the inconvenience, I could see why the airline fizzled out several years later. Poor service, good riddance. Service The service was good with a regular schedule of drinks and food. The flight attendants were good and professional with no issues or problems. In-Flight Accommodations The inflight accomodations were adequate with good service. The seats had adequate spaceing and comfortable, especially compared to the way airlines cramp seats today.

Never Never again

You can forgive an airline if it is a problem that is totally out of their control. But when it is just plain stupidity, that is inexcusable. This past week I was traveling through Detroit on the way to Chicago. At our departure point the flight was an hour late in arriving. We got on the plane and the flight attendant told us that the crew had all arrived at Detroit in route to come to our airport in State College, but they had no plane available for the crew. They finally found a plane for them and come to find they have no ice. So what do they do?  They let the passengers decide if they want to fly back home to State College or cancel the flight because of no ice. We finally arrive in Detroit and because of the late arrival we have 10 minutes to get to our connecting flight. The steward tells us that there will be an agent outside our gate to tell us where our connection is. No agent. Run to a screen to check our gate. The first six screen completely black. Run to the next screen. Of course, it is on the other end of the airport. We book it carrying bags in hands , get to the gate and are greeted with, You barely made it. NO SH*T.   The return flight threw Detroit was another fiasco. An early flight returning to State College was cancelled. We get to Detroit with 1 1/2 hrs. to spare. About 20 minutes till take off, they change gates. So everybody booked on that flight along with all the standbys from the previous flight have to run about 30 gates for the new departure point. Get to that gate and the monitor is flashing that another gate change was made in a totally different terminal. Once again we end up leaving another hour late. Never again. Sorry Northwest. It was the first and last time. Southwest we will never leave you again!!

Helpful Customer Service

5

Recently I was planning my family trip to FL for 2009.  I had a complicated airline booking due to the use of credits.  I called customer service and was assisted by a very friendly agent.  The call was close to an hour, however I knew at the end that my travel was booked properly and my needs had been met!

It was my first flight from US to India by northwest airlines. I reached the airport and the woman at the luggage check-in counter started rattling about the size of my bag. She brought a tape measure and started measuring and made my 62" linear dimension bag look like it is 65" bag. the way she did it was - she just stretched the tape 1" on each side length, depth and width and made it look like 65". She made me pay 500 $ extra for oversized bags. I must say that I had used the same bags while coming from India to USA on a Northwest airline flight with no problem. But the woman would not listen and just made me the pay the amount... Overall it was the worst day of my life. NWA has ripped me off of my precious money without any reason.

Worst airline I've ever been on

1

Northwest is the worst airline I have flown on.  I travel domestically at least 4 times a year on various airlines (whichever I can get the cheapest deal on)  Northwest continuously cancels and delays flights.  They are very inconsistent.  My last flight with them got cancelled.  According to them, it was due to weather.  Funny thing was that every other airline was still flying their planes in that weather.  I was offered no reimbursement for that flight or hotel for the two days I was stuck there.   It was a difficult process to even make it back home.  When I finally got rebooked on a flight, there was problems at check-in where they almost didn't let me on the plane.  I will always be very cautious of booking a flight with Northwest again.

I will never fly Northwest again!

I flew Northwest once, with original plans to fly with the airline twice.  Thank goodness the return flight was canceled, because I don't think I could have handled another 4 and a half hour flight with those people.  I was a very obviously 8-month pregnant woman, traveling as the only adult with two small children (a 3 year old and a 16 month old).  I always purchase seats for my children on long flights.  On top of trying to juggle to two children, I had the stroller, the car seat (which is required when purchasing a seat for a child under 2), and the diaper bag filled with in flight entertainment for my kids.  After people traveling with small children needing assistance were called to board the plane, the flight attendant made me walk back down the ramp and wait off to the side while everyone else boarded before she would assist me with the car seat and folding up the stroller.  When I tried to just go back to the waiting area so I could sit down instead of holding the baby and the 3 year old and keeping track of our belongings, I was told that I would not be allowed back on the plane because they had scanned my boarding pass already and it couldn't be scanned a second time.  So I had to stand there for nearly 45 minutes, even as other passengers begged to wait for me.  In flight my children were refused meal and beverage service until I provided proof that I paid for their seat.  I also had a flight attendant complain to me twice that my very quiet and happily occupied baby was getting crumbs on their floor and I would have to clean that up before I left the plane.  When the return flight was canceled they tried to refuse to credit my youngest for a flight with another airline because they wanted me to take him as a lap child.  More than a dozen other passengers complained about the horrible treatment that I received on the flight.  I will never fly Northwest again.

Great airline with a great frequent flyer program

5

I've been travelling on Northwest before, during and after their recent bankruptcy.  The company has obviously been through a lot, but they've always provided good service in getting me where I need to go, quickly and efficiently.  Even when there have been bumps in the road, they've solved the problem in a way that left me satisfied.  I also like their frequent flyer program - I earn miles on tons of other airlines, which makes things really convenient.

disappointed in the service while on board

I flew on continental express airlines when I flew into Newark, NJ.  It was a smalle plane, but the service was good.  They served a beverage and a snack during the 1.5 hour flight.  I changed my ticket and flew back a couple days early and I got put on a Northwest flight.  I flew NWA out of Manchester to Detoit.  The flights were ontime.  but during this hour flight we only got sodas.  No snack.  Also from Detoit to Little Rock, a 2.5 hour flight we got a beverage service nd no snack.  I was kind of disappointed because on a cheaper flight I had got good service and then I had to pay more and I got less service.
