We had the misfortune of flying the King of Detroit, a City we don't care for either.
We were flying to Vancouver BC for a cruise & RCCL bought the entire package for us. With US Direct, you have express baggage service to the ship with no wait at the carousel, then express immigration, to the bus which is sealed with tape so we fly through all security check points a the airport & pier.
But getting there was a absolute joke. First we have to fly across Lake Erie to Detroit's suburban airport. Half way across we hear a big BOOM. My seat fly up from the floor. Then the pilot announces "WE JUST BLEW THE RIGHT ENGINE". I am seated right there next to it. So we are low, slow & I am scared but we make the airport. Now we have to sit on the tarmac with engine off as the fire dept comes to inspect the engine & plane. 2 hours sitting there. Our plane to Vancouver took off already, we asked the stewardesses about it but they don't care.
So at the airport we are asking what flight we have been switched to & no one know anything. SO I go to Continental's counter, give them our tickets for partner NWA & the gal stated we missed our flight. I stated we were on the tarmac after blowing an engine over Lake Erie for 2 hours for safety checks. So they got on the phone to NWA to find out our travel arrangeents, which they have none. SO CO gets us on their plane. The gal tells me we will have a nice hot meal, not the $2 chips, $5 peanuts, $8 ham sandwich that NWA has. They may even have pay toilets. They also alerted US Direct to come ot CO carousel for our luggage.
NEVER AGAIN ON NWA! Continental is the best of air carriers & we are their home as of 2008.
