My father-in-law got me into riding this airline a few years ago which I had not taken prior to that. I got stayed with the airline for business purposes as much as possible since I was already in their frequent flyer program (worldperks) after flying a few times with my wife. Of all the frequent flyer programs, I liked this one the best. As far as I know, the miles do not expire and the elite bonuses are quite generous. They are part of the SkyTeam alliance which includes Delta and Continental airlines as well KLM (the Dutch airline). We use NWA to fly to Asia since they have a great routes, going through either Osaka or Tokyo Japan, and to Europe, we often get on a KLM flight since they have more routes. We have no problems redeeming the miles on any of the SkyTeam carriers which is great, especially when we would like a direct flight instead of having to pass through a NWA hub like Minnepolis/St Paul or Detroit.
The only complaint is that recently, we discovered while flying on Continental that the Continental fleet seemed newer and nicer and they provided complimentary meals that NWA charges for. They also have a better inflight entertainment system. In business class, I felt that the entertainment equipment was just just it's prime and needed desparately to be upgraded. The individual screen was not easily visable and for a 11+ hour flight overseas, this comes more of a problem. We had a few instances where they ran out of food in business class, which I thought was odd since a business class ticket costs several thousand dollars. The meals are not of good quality either. Otherwise, the customer service is fairly good here. I would not be afraid to voice a complaint or pay a compliment. Sometimes the airline does offer free snack voucher or other forms of compensation to make up for extremely delayed flights or missed connections due to delays or poor customer service by a representative.
In short - I have stuck to NWA due to the frequent flyer program. If it were to change for the worse, I would not be as loyal.
