My last trip (and it will be my LAST) on Northwest Airlines had me in tears! I had made reservations months in advance and even had seat numbers assigned to my partner and myself. The first leg of the flight was not on time and I worried about the connection. However when arriving at the gate boarding had not even begun yet. My partner took that opportunity to go get some food. She brought it back to the gate and we preceded to eat while a huge line of people waited to board the plane.
As I said we had assigned seats, so I wasn't concerned. Then when we were in line and just about to board we were stopped from boarding. The people on the plane were allowed to stay on unless they volunteered to deplane. We were told that the plane was over full and we could not board. How could they overboard the plane and then not let passengers with assigned seats and month old reservations on the plane? There must have been a fairer way to deal with it!
We then had to wait the rest of the day in the airport for an available flight. We sat there listening to one problem after another about the plane they needed not being available, about crews not be available because the could not work overtime, and about bad weather in a totally different location which should not have affected us, All this time we had people wait to pick us up in Washington DC and we couldn't even give them a clear idea of when we would be there, It turns out there were over 12 hours of delay and our afternoon flight did not get in to DC until 2AM. There was not even an upgrade to first class to make me feel any better.
