More About The North Face Womens Akila 40 Flight Series
This pack is made from nylon then treated with a silicone type substance to reduce weight and also make the pack water repellant. There is an aluminum X-shaped frame for good support and to keep this pack light. The whole emphasis is on keeping this light while also allowing it to hold everything I need to pack into it. The hipbelt is contoured and has a three point closure and the pack has a roll top lid that makes it easy for me to pack and keeps it waterproof and weatherproof. There is a large mesh stash pocket, two big side zippered pockets and a water bottle holder. There is a rain cover that is tucked away in a size pocket that can be used during a sudden storm. Also, there is a front pocket that has a clip for keys and will fit the smaller stuff like sunglasses and ID. I am sure I am forgetting a ton of features but you get the idea. This is made for a woman and every emphasis is on keeping the pack lightweight yet very sturdy and weatherproof. It is also made for easy handling from packing to the many pockets that divide things up and the rain cover that is there when I need it.
The entire thing only weighs about two pounds and a few ounces and, when fully packed, can hold about tons of stuff. I don't carry that much. As much as I like to over pack, I don't when I am carrying the stuff on my back. I always pack the heavier things on the bottom, close to my lower back and the lighter things on top where my strength is lower. This pack really does make it easy to hike and carry everything I need. Because this is a woman's pack, it was made to fit a woman's body and contoured to make carrying the pack easier.
I love this pack. I can put all my stuff in it and split things up so I know where it all is. It fits me perfectly. I have size Small. The hipbelt is just the right length and the length of the pack is perfect for my height. The pack sits where it should and doesn't strain my back at all. The material is almost indestructible yet light and, in all, although I would rather be having a massage at a spa, I enjoy hiking with the guys more with this pack on my back.
My Viewpoint
Although this pack was around $150.00 when we bought it a couple of years ago, it was well worth the price. I wanted a $40.00 piece of junk. I had no idea how important the features that this pack offered were until I actually used it and was stuck in the rain and walked a few miles with it on my back. I wouldn't trade this in for any other pack It's perfect for me. 5 stars.
