If you live in an area that experiences cold winters, then you will truly appreciate the North Face W Metropolis Parka.  It's an amazingly warm, yet light to wear.  I would liken it to wearing a sleeping bag, only you don't look crazy because it's relatively stylish for a big puffy jacket.

This jacket comes in 7 different colors:  Black, Brown, Green, Gold, Red, Beige and Silver.  Sizes range from XS - XL (these jackets seem to run a little large).  It's about knee length, so it keeps you warm while providing a range of movement (relative to floor-length jackets).  The hood is insulated and detachable.  (I typically wear my jacket with the hood detached just because I think it looks a bit more streamlined, but the hood is quite warm if you don't like wearing hats.)  For extra protection against frigid winters, the jacket has a front zipper as well as snaps.  (Another feature that provides for added 'fashion' versatility.)  There are two external pockets as well as an internal security pocket.

The jacket is about $300 - but I'm sure if you shop around, you can get it for a slightly better price.  I've had my jacket for 2 winters now and I can't see it failing me in the near future.  As with all North Face products, this one will last you forever (so spending a little extra is no big deal)!

This coat has helped me survive two winters in Chicago and I don’t know what I did without it!
