Norman Rockwell Museum —

Norman Rockwell is best known for the covers of The Saturday Evening Post. The walls of an entire room downstairs at the Norman Rockwell Museum is devoted to each and every original cover of the magazine, with a short movie detailing his life.

In the early 20th century, magazines weren't interested in the rights to the pictures, just the chance to reproduce them on their covers. That's lucky for us, because that enables the gallery to hang many original paintings that the covers used.

Apart from being an illustrator, in his later years Rockwell was able to express his own ideas through his paintings. The Four Freedoms are a WWII series he created, and there are several paintings depicting civil rights incidents, all here.

There is one wing reserved for other artists, on a rotating basis, as per Rockwell's own wishes. When we visited, the sculpture of his son Peter was on display.

Rockwell's art studio was moved here from his home in nearby Stockbridge. Guided tours of the art studio are available.

There is a gift shop that sells reproductions of Rockwell's works as well as art books.

The museum gives us an all-around portrait of the man it's dedicated to.
