The Nokia N770, an "internet tablet", is a fantastically flexible platform. It runs the Linux operating system, specifically Debian. What this means for me as a gear head and a techie is that I can use it to interface and control other systems, and program it as I see fit. For you as a consumer it means that there is a large pool of versatile applications, available for free from a community of developers. For the intermediate user there are many capabilities documented in step by step How-Tos.

For its designed use, an "Internet Tables" it far exceeds previous devices in its category. It uses the Opera browser and supports java-script and flash. Among these class device, javascript is rare and flash unheard of. Google applications work, not as fast or smooth as a desktop, but they do work. Ive used gmail and google maps fequently. The device has 2 methods of connecting, blue tooth and 802.11b WiFi. The interface for connecting is simpler than even Windows XP. Its support for even advanced protocols like WPA-2 AES PSK without any bother puts others to shame, windows XP and Intel's Wireless agents are bloated and complicated by comparison.

Intermediate users can easily use the device to play music, TV shows and movies. They can also use applications fo remote connectivity such as VNC, Remote Desktop (RDP), and ssh. Use real-time communications such as Instant Messaging. It has a RSS reader.

Advanced users can connect to USB devices, which opens up a hole new world of connectivity and expandability. It has the hardware capability for advanced wireless recon and pen testing tools such as kismet and airsnort. Its command shell is busybox and pretty limited until you install a few tools, such as bash and openssh.

The only drawback is the on screen keyboard, its a bit clumsy and kinda cramps my hand after typing a lot, and i do mean a lot so the casual user will not usually find it problematic.
