I am writing this review after only owning my Nokia Nuron 5230 for a couple of weeks.  I still haven't used all the great features, but I am getting there fast.  I never thought I would go back to a Nokia cell phone after loving my Motorola RAZR and W490 so much, but I was wrong.  I'm not going to say I don't still like Motorola, but my impression of Nokia has certainly changed.

Here are the 2 features I like the best.

- Touch screen - This is my first touch screen cell phone.  I was very skeptical because I was afraid I would make too many mistakes, but this couldn't be further from the truth.  I really like how the Nokia Nuron 5230 vibrates to let you know you've selected something.

- On screen keypad - I love the dialer and on screen keypad options for dialing and texting.  I never did text very much, but now I am texting my daughters, sisters and friends a lot more.  I even text my husband on his new Nokia Nuron 5230 at work and when he's sitting right next to me for fun!

I haven't had the opportunity to try out the GPS option, but I am sure that will come in handy when I go to the big city next time.

I find this cell phone very easy to use which really surprised me.  I have heard horror stories from friends and family with touch screen cell phones, so I was very skeptical.  I'm glad I got over that.

The FREE, yes I said FREE software that you can download for the Nokia Nuron 5230 is wonderful.  I can access my text messages and reply right from my computer.  I also set up my email and can check it on my phone as needed.  I have started updating and uploading photos to my social networking sites with that great feature I never thought I'd need or use.  The software gives me almost complete control over the data I keep stored on my cell phone or the memory card that's included.

The only quams I have with this cell phone are that I needed to buy a screen protector and that it really needs a good cover.  Unforunately, so far, there are no cases or covers that are made specifically for the Nokia Nuron 5230 (unless something has happened in the last 48 hours).  I did find a nice case that protects it when I am on the go.  I guess the size and shape is another plus since it isn't hard to get a cover for it.

My hubby and I got a great 2 for one deal with T-Mobile, so it was a steal to top everything else off.

I'm not sure how I did anything without this phone after only two weeks and I haven't even used everything I can on it yet!  To think I was happy with a standard phone!

Okay I got this phone and loved it, at first and then it started. The first thing I found out that I didn't like was I had to back out of each thing by hand. I thought it was a "smart phone" then it began to get stuck. I was in the mall one day and I have an awesome song as a ring town and I here my phone ring and then I here the same part of the song over and over and over again and I can't answer it or even turn it of or down or anything. After everyone has started to stare I finally get the battery out and reset it and my face is as red as the new shirt I just got lol. Then a few weeks later my phone decides to blank out or should I say "white out" the screen goes white and it turns off and back on, no matter what I am in the middle of. After exchanging it for a new one and then I begin to have issues with the battery. So I replace it too. Now I have a new phone and battery and I have had this one for only a little over 6 weeks and first it starts having issues staying charged. Then it starts not even wanting to charge at all and then after charging it my indacator says full I make one phone call talk for 10 minute and I here battery low and then NOTHING my phone drops the call and turns off. Again great now I am thinking its the Nuron and I am wanting a new phone period but the company I am going through wants me to try another one so I am waiting for the new one now. BTW yes it is still "whiting out" too. I sure hope this new one is better. I will let you know :)

A good basic smartphone

By

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Nokia Nuron Smartphone:

I have used this phone on and off for the past 3 years and while it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of an Iphone or Samsung Galaxy, it gets the job done. Call quality is good, it has a decent size screen, the virtual keyboard is good, it takes pretty good pictures, and the standby time is respectable. The number of apps unfortunately is limited and downloading is slow and sometimes wont work at all. Tmobile is not a joy to deal with either at times. But overall, if you want something that will get the job done without all the fancy stuff, this works fine.

Nokia Nuron is a great phone

By

from Howard Lake, MN

Comments about Nokia Nuron Smartphone:

I have had this phone for quite a while. It has been a nice phone to have. It was my first touch screen phone. I have only had a few problems with it. It has shut off randomly or the screen has gone goofy, but overall it's been a fun phone. It comes with a string to loop on it with a pick on it. You can use the pick instead of your finger to push buttons. It does take great pictures and videos. You can adjust the size of the pictures and the quality of the videos so that the files are small or big. If you do high quality videos they will not send as a text message to anyone because they are too large. The pictures will send but take longer and don't always go through clear if the pictures are too big. Has capability for internet which works great. It's fast and convenient. It's a good size phone so it's easy for travel. It's not too big and not too small. You can turn the phone sideways for a keyboard or straight up and down for a regular phone dialling and typing.

It has a lot of features, kind of sluggish.

By

from Goodyear, AZ

Comments about Nokia Nuron Smartphone:

This phone is great. It has a ton of features, such as bluetooth, touchscreen, free navigation, headphone jack, micro sd card support, and a long lasting battery. I purchased this phone from t-mobile since it was the only smart phone that did not require a data plan. When i first opened the box, the phone felt solid and rugged. However, It is very thick, maybe too thick. The symbian os on this phone runs slow for some reason. It feels like it lags to open up any menu or to attatch documents/photos to your multi media messages. You also cannot customize the lower icons/shortcuts, so you are stuck with the default ones. This proves to be a pain because one of the shortcuts leads to the internet browser, which can be accidentally pressed. This phone also does not support wifi, which is another downfall. It does however include free GPS and maps from ovi. The maps are really detailed and the system doesnt use data if placed in offline mode. Overall this phone is ok for a "smart" phone. If it were quicker then I would have given it 5 stars.

Nokia Neuron Thinks

By

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about Nokia Nuron Smartphone:

The Nokia Nuron 5230 is a great cell phone. It is the cheapest and best smart phone I was able to find through all of my extensive research. It works great for me and allows me to do all of the things that i could ever want to do on a cell phone. The only "hangup" i have with this cellphone is that its built in GPS is dreadfully bad. It doesn't pick up your signal at all. Besides that, The service is excellent and i never have any dropped calls. I love using it as an mp3 player. I no longer have to travel with an ipod with me, i just plug headphones into this phone and i'm good to go. I take photos with it all the time. The camera looks great and its easy to use. The videos this phone takes are quite crisp and fluid, I am very impressed with that. I like the touch screen - it feels excellent to type out text messages or emails. Browsing the web is also a piece of cake on the Nokia nuron Smartphone. Buy it today!

Nokia 5230 Nuron is an amazing phone!

By

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Nokia Nuron Smartphone:

If you're looking for the benefits of a smart touch-screen phone (like an iPhone or and Android), look no further than the Nokia 5230. I love the 3G calling speed and the ability to download apps and games from either USB port or Nokia's own Ovi App Store. To those saying that it lacks many good apps, look in the right places. I've never come up empty-handed when looking for apps. Nokia puts customizability into overdrive by letting the user set "themes" for the phones including backgrounds and icons. The ability to switch into portrait/landscape mode is extremely useful. The full querty landscape keyboard is very conveniant. My only complaint is that within the first month of my purchase of this item, it has already broken twice and forced me to do a factory restart. Fortunately, you can still save your files. All in all, this is a great phone and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a cheaper alternative to an iPhone or an Android.

Satisfactory phone

By

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about Nokia Nuron Smartphone:

If you are looking for a basic smartphone, then you may want to consider this one. It is a touch phone and has a touch qwerty keypad. Many online websites state that this phone has free GPS, but I think that it is only free if you have a  data plan. That it a main drawback for me. Another drawback is the "lock". I sometimes forget to lock the phone, and the internet browser pops up and I get charged for the data used. But I understand that it is my fault for forgetting to lock it. This phone has a dictionary which may be useful to many, but it lacks a tip calculator. It comes equipped with a radio, which I am thankful for. You can listen to it on the go, free of charge. The camera is sufficient, no problems there. The ringtones are great. Nokia always delivers in that category. The phone also features AIM and GCHAT, but I believe that they are free with a data plan. All in all, this isn't a bad phone for the price.

Nuron is decent, could be better

By

from Long Beach, CA

Comments about Nokia Nuron Smartphone:

Now with all these smart phones entering the market and what not, Nokia comes up with the Nuron. It's decent and does it's job, but it could have been way better. A major con is not having Wi-Fi capability, which would have been great. Another problem is the Apps situation, unlike the iPhone, the Apps have to be downloaded through a data plan which is quite costly. And the pre-loaded applications are really plain and only trials. Sometimes the screen forgets that it is touch and you have to restart the phone just to do anything. A major fault in my opinion, but Nokia should have took their time and not rushed to push this out. Otherwise it would have been a great competitor with the iPhone and such. Battery life is amazing, but that is because I don't use it much and lock it so the screen fades out. Charge is very quick and all. What is interesting is that if you have a vertical outlet, you can place your phone so that it rests on top of the charger, just be careful that you knock it off.

perfect

Comments about Nokia Nuron Smartphone:

For the most part I enjoyed this phone. It's easy to use, fun and reliable. I had this phone for 5 months. It was great. The only problem I had with it was the screen freezing up and the phone locking me out. I had to replace it twice. Other than the screen freezing I would recommend this phone to anyone.

Fab, functional and fun phone with few drawbacks

By

from Lewiston, ME

Comments about Nokia Nuron Smartphone:

I have had the T-Mobile branded Nokia 5230 Nuron for a few months now and I love the phone but it does have some weaknesses also.

The touch screen is easy to use with fingers if your fingers are the right size (I have small hands and fingers and mine are just small enough) or with a stylus although the included "Guitar Pick" stylus leaves a bit to be desired and I would recommend just using a generic pen type stylus.

It has some great built in apps and many more for free from the Nokia Store. The one thing it is lacking is a good twitter app. Look around in the store and you can find plenty for free or for a small price or just look online. The Nokia store has a ton of free apps some of them are just fun, like a virtual Zippo lighter for concerts and parties and some are helpful or essential.

The phone has an accelerometer which allows for some apps to do things like track steps walked or which way you're holding your phone and adjust the screen display to fit. Games can use the phone's direction and motion sensing like a Wii controler. Many games are only available in either portrait or landscape and not both so you'll have to leave your comfort zone sometimes.

The phone is a fully functional MP3 player and Video player which works great and even comes with a 4GB MicroSD card to store data (Of course you can put a bigger one in if you want). Plain mp3's can be used as ring tones which is great and you can use custom music, videos and pics for each caller in your book so you'll always know who is calling.

The web browser allows multiple windows which is great and switching back and forth is a breeze. The biggest drawback is that it isn't able to connect to WiFi. It has 3g coverage but if you live in a 3g dead zone like I do it never woks.

The phone is rather plain looking. Like all phones these days it has a ton of skins and hard cases for it but I suggest letting your imagination fly and color the big plain white backside of the phone with some sharpies! The display is a little delicate. I dropped mine on a carpet and cracked the display so the phone is now useless! Not covered by warranty either.

This is a fun phone for someone who wants a fun phone. Not looking for a business PDA that also happens to make calls then this is for you. Its not going to replace your blackberry if you need the PDA functions but it will keep you amused and in touch with friends.
