A great smart phone before Android time

4

I had this phone from my company - I got it back in 2010 and it was a good phone except one incident. Two weeks after I got the phone I had it in my pocket, the phone suddenly got very hot and I had to take it out. After I took the phone out the phone was totally dead. So I sent in the phone for repair and it came back and never had any incidents since then. Now about the phone: it's made out of very solid and good material. Good thing: it doesn't feel cheap and you can feel the quality. Bad thing: it feels like a brick when I had it in my handbag. I love the fact that this phone actually has a keyboard and it's hidden so that the phone is not so bulky. I really hate using the keypad to type messages and this phone solved the problem! Also it has all the smart phone function such as browsing and gps. The phone was great until the 'real' smart phones arrives: more sites are app based and somehow the wifi on the phone doesn't work as well as before. The big problem is that when Android is so dominant virtually nothing support the N97 operating system (symbian). I can't really use the phone much except simple browsing, calling and texting, and there are plenty of tiny light cheap phones that can perform this function, why pick N97? Battery Life Something wrong with the charger, so I had to replace it alongside with the battery. Otherwise great.

Nokia push this smartphone out to compete with the other smartphones on the market. The internal memory actually attracts me to this phone as well as the full QWERTed keyboard which allows fast texting. The touch screen and all of that is basically standard. I consider this phone above average for what it provides, its easy to use and program, its Nokia, voice activated, what else could you ask for other than not having the android OS on it. It does have Wifi so you could navigate the internet when you are near a hotspot, but i dont really see the point to it due to the introduction of netbooks. But if you dont want to be lugging around a netbook for internet and stuff you could use this. Some problems with this is the signal, I often get dropped in iffy places but that may be i use ATT or it could be the phone who knows. The vibration is a little iffy as well need the vibration to be a little stronger. This is a great product if you are looking for something in the smart phone thing.

I like it!!

I bought this phone last year and I think it is a very good phone. It has had few issues which I have been able to fix myselft but overall it's a great phone. I have a Nokia e71 too. I love nokia phones! If you're looking for the best touch screen phone and the best browsing experience this phone is not for you but if you're looking for a functional phone which works for everything else than this phone would work gread and don't need to pay the hefty fees for signing a new 2 year contract. These are the things i like about this phone : Voice quality, Great camera, Good Video Quality, Internet Radio, Wi-Fi (If connects flawlessly on this phone), Free GPS for life of phone, Texting is a breeze. Many applications for everything you need, although not as my friends Iphone but who cares!. Things that don't like are : Battery life, if you use the internet or have open any applications that always require connection to the internet you have to charge the phone daily otherwise with modest internet usage, calling and playing games every couple of days. Couple of time the phone died---i guess the battery was dead for no reason but you can buy an extra battery just in case. I think for the price you pay it's a very good phone.

pretty good phone

THe main thing I like about this keyboard is its qwerty keyboard, it makes typing so much for efficient and I can text anywhere and anytime. Nokia is a fairly good brand because it lasts basiaally forever. Overall, it is a great product because it is easy to use and program. Other features on it that make it even more appealing to the average consumer is the voice navigation system where you can speak into it and it will follow yours commands. Its wifi is also pretty good so i f you have access to the wifi system around you, you can definitely access the internet.   Some comes about it are that it has signal problems depending on your carrier, and calls can sometimes drop. Its bettery life is dismal at best and the print often wears off of hte buttons. However, if you can overlook this small inefficiencies you should definitely get the phone if you are an avid texter like I am. Don't think twice!

Does not cut it in this fast paced era...

If you are describing the computer advances like flying, then I would say the cell phone technology advances like hypersonic! With the advance smartphone like iphone and androids rolling...nokia's symbian OS although generally reliable, the interface just seem a bit outdated. I still appreciate its craftmanship and the hardware design. The cell phone has been dropped by my girlfriend couple times and it still doesn't seems cause a lot of damages. Some scratches definitely, but the cell phone still holds its integrity. The screen is nice and big, though it is a resistive instead of the capacitive. The menu navigation is not quite as smooth as the newer smartphones out there and also not as responsive to the finger commands. It is like a swiss army knife in such a small package: bluetooth, 802.11g, backlit keyboard, A-GPS, as well as a zeiss lensed 2MP camera. One complaint that I'm having with the phone is its battery life, you have to put the cell phone on the charger after extensive day usage or otherwise you still have to charge it within a day and a half.

Nice hardware, slow CPU and Symbian OS is dying

Nokia N97 has one of the cool phone from the industrial design perspective. The main thing is the interesting double hinge for fold out keyboard. Nokia N97 Mini retains this cool keyboard hinge while the volume has been reduced to appeal to more female users. The exterior of the phone with the metallic finish all shouting high end elegance. However inside the phone, Nokia make a lot of poor design choice.   First, the  CPU is still the slow ARM 11 CPU while the industry standard was already using ARM based Cortex A8 processor. The guts of the phone is pretty much the same as that of N97. That means it's slow and unresponsive. The biggest improvement is that on N97 mini, they tweaked the firmware so that it now has kinetic scrolling in some of the menu. But that's  not enough to attract buyers. The biggest problem for this phone is the software support. Symbian OS is actually not bad. UI is rather primitive but can be lived with. The problem is the lack of application support which is the core of the problem.    I would stay away from N97 or N97 mini no matter how cheap you can get it for.

powerful n97 by nokia but the os is lacking

4

This is a good cellphone with all the power that this thing has in it but the thing that kill it in comparison to other phones on the market is that nokia os is outdated. i like the physical keyboard and the camera but i am not like the lack of ability to do stuff with this phone. There is little to no app. and with a huge price tag, i should not have bought it as my first smartphone. The navigation system on board is a plus though so that is why i gave the four stars, because you can download the region that you want and then without data service travel around at ease. The gps connection did not take long to connect so that was a plus for the navigation. the wifi was good because it allowed for me to surf the internet at home but then again i could just do that on the laptop. no doubt about it that this phone is powerful but in comparison with other phones available on the market and this huge price tag. this phone is not worth it.

The Nokia N97 mini is the best phone

5

I've had the Nokia N97 mini for a little over a year now after upgrading from the Nokia N95 8GB and I have to say it is quite simply the best smartphone on the market. It has everything you could ever need in a phone and has made redundant all my other gadgets. The Nokia N97 mini looks absolutely gorgeous to start with, it has a sturdy feeling metal finish and everybody who plays with it comments on how good the phone looks. It has a full slide out QWERTY keyboard that tilts at a nice angle to make texting or writing emails really comfertable. The home screen is fully customisable so you can have your contacts, your email, your live feeds from social networks like facebook, your music etc. at your fingertips constantly. The phone stays connected to the internet all of the time so to get the full functionality of this phone you will need an unlimited data plan. The touch screen is very responsive and is easy to get used to. The battery life is also exceptional for a phone that does so much.

The N97 is a decent phone

5

The Nokia - N97 min (8gb) Cell Phone definitely has it all. It not only has the internet and data capabilities, and the usual standards of a regular cell phone, but it has eight gigabytes worth of space for music and data files. THis is my handheld planner. Although not as good as an iPhone from Apple, it certainly is comparable and gets the job done. The interface of the phone is also very user friendly. It has a slide option that displays a full keyboard. The lighting and the clarity of the camera are a plus too. I really like the QWERTY keyboard since it is much easier to use because I am used to it. The voice navigation is a pretty neat thing as well. The WiFi, although not too fast, runs a very decent speed everywhere and anywhere I go. I use it on the bus all the time to surf the web. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to get a new phone with internet capabilites. Enjoy it!
