Excellent smart / feature phone

5

The Nokia N95 cell phone is an excellent multimedia smart / feature phone. This is not as common a phone as many others because it was never taken on as a subsidized phone by any of the major US wireless carriers, so people have to pay an unsubsidized price to get the phone. However, this one is a gem. It is based on the GSM quad band standard, so it will work both domestically and internationally almost anywhere in the world with a GSM signal. This is a two way slider phone with a standard alpha numeric keypad, so if you need a keyboard, this is not for you. However, if you did discount the phone because of that, you would be missing out on the great GPS mapping (free and offline), 5 megapixel camera with real flash for excellent quality images, WiFi internet access and stereo mp3 player with standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Lastly, since this is not a touch screen based phone, most wireless carriers do not impose a smart phone data plan, so that can save a lot of money. Overall, this is an excellent smart-ish / feature phone.

EXCELLENT SOUND & IMAGE

5

I loved loved loved loved this phone when it came out back few years ago. I had it in 2008 for my graduation present. I felled in love with it. The colors fit me perfectly! The one I have was in red and silver. However, they have one in silver and plum, and also in silver and bronze.  Another reason why I love Nokia so much is because the sound quality is crisp and loud. I remembered driving on the highway and talking on the phone (with the speaker phone on), I could easily hear each and every words that came out on the other end. I was very surprised that the other person can hear me very clear as well. When I'm bored, I used to blast my music on speaker phone in my bedroom, and my mom can even hear it in the living room. It really and truly have the best quality sound ever!  An awesome thing about this phone is..that it feature an option to record your conversation while you're talking with someone on the other end (not a lot of phones can do this). If I have a chance to buy it again, I would totally since mine got robbed after a few months of having it. Please don't mistaken this for the N95 (8GB) built in; it is a more expensive version that usually, most likely in black (has a soft touch to the phone).

The n95 does everything the iphone does, but better (n95 8 gig)

I have bought this phone several months ago, without a contract. I didn't want a generic IPhone, because apple products are substandard because apple employs a premium pricing strategy for their products so people to buy their stuff thinking that it's better because it's more expensive. Nokia one the other hand makes high quality products, which pick up a signal when all other brands show no bars. The n95 specifically has very attractive features including internal gps which doesn't rely on the network and works very well with garmin mobile, and wifi which allows you to use the internet for free in most urban areas. You can also sign up for the cheapest data plan, and still access the net at 3g speeds, for things like listening to streaming internet radio and watching video anywhere without the really expensive pda data plans. It is very durable and stylish albeit a bit bulky, and is sure to stand out in a crowd of iphones and motorollas.

very expensive but worth it...only one fault

The Nokia N95 is a very good phone...all the user ever needs in a communication device.  The only drawback i sthe DIARY...it keeps historical text messages, pics received or taken, etc and breaks it out by the date the event happened.  The bad thing is that if you want to delete this history for any reason, it will totally wipe out all your photos.  Not a user-friendly function at all.

Awesome phone!!! If you can charge it everyday...

This phone is SOO cool! But its horrible battery life makes it hard to swallow the phone's high price. I got this phone overseas, so it was a lot cheaper and I don't feel as bad when the phone conks out after only a day. Seriously, ONE DAY. I can squeeze a day and a half out of it if I'm not using any of the applications or making any calls. The GPS is awesome though, but you have to pay extra for voice navigation. There are different plans at different prices. I have a 1 year subscription, and it works great. The voice is British, which everyone always finds amusing. The e-mail is great too, but I REALLY love that this phone has wi-fi. I can now get internet without having a plan! Sweet. Now onto the phone. This phone takes GREAT pictures, but be forewarned that the reaction time is ridiculously slow. After taking a picture, you have to leave the camera in place for ages.

Nokia N95 built strong but weak battery life

3

I purchased this smart phone for my wife. It is much heavier and thicker than most standard cell phones which are currently produced. It is a semi-slider with a generous non-touch screen. It does not have a qwerty keyboard, but the dialer is big enough for even larger size fingers. It has an included map app which covers US and canada. (Other countries can be purchsed/downloaded for a fee) The included apps are what you would expect, except it does not include any productivity sw. (unless you consider clock/calender productivity) The phone is built pretty tough, it has been dropped several times and accidently washed once, but after taking battery out and using blow dryer, we were able to get back to working condition. The problem I do notice is with WI-FI connectivity and battery life. Wi-fi connection drops after a few minutes, and battery life is about 2 hours max (after a full charge) This could be related to the age of the device, but I found from various sources that this is a common problem. Camera takes very nice pics and the 8GB storage is quite generous. Strong phone, but weak battery/wifi

Great hardware needs more software

I own the N95 and have been an owner for about 3 years now. This is a great phone and packs a lot of features into a really small device. It has a Carl Zeiss lens camera (the same ones they use in all Sony digital cameras), Wifi, Bluetooth and a whole host of other features including a front facing camera. It has an internal GPS and a nice feature is the ability to download Nokia Maps for free, so for example, you can download the entire New York map to your phone so that you can navigate without having to connect using the data plan (you should need it to triangulate your location). With Nokia Exchange on the phone, you also have push email, so this is a full featured phone. The only downside I can think of the Nokia Ovi app store. The interface is horrible and clunky and it takes forever to load on my mobile provider. I also wish there was a larger variety in the app store, this is one area which Nokia really needs to promote if they want to take over and compete with Apple or RIM's Blackbeerry or Android.

Have not found a unit that replaces N 95 devices

I purchased my first N95 a couple of years ago. At that time I think it was way ahead of its time. The video and 5 mega-pixel camera did it for me. After learning how to use the camera I was able to take some fantastic pictures, not to mention the fact that mine was unlocked and I could use the phone any where in the world. I invested in an international sim card. I travel Asia and the Middle East and my phone is everywhere I am. Even now with the new 4g phones, I just do not have use for that function yet, so the N-95 wins with me. I have had my phone refurbished by Nokia and it works as new.

a cell that worth buying

It is a fncy phone that I would like to own. Given another chance, I will choose this again. The N95 measures a compact 3.8 inches long by 2.1 inches wide by 0.8 inch thick and weighs only 4.2 ounces. It feels comfortable to hold, and the soft-touch finish on the back of the device makes it easier to grip. The 5-mega camera rocks, i do like the camera though not as fantastic as the 'authentic' digital cameras. But considering the cell phone, it is a good deal. Also, then keyboards are nice, compared with some Sony Ericsson I used previously. However, the battery consumption was huge. It literally uses all the power in a day without using at all. Compared with similar cell phones from other companies, it is a little expensive. Anyway, it is Nokia... I guess on average, it is a cell phone that you will want to have, or at least have a try at a local store... hehe, I am a fan of Nokia, so I really likes this one.

N95 is the best value for your money

You know that it is time to change your phone when people start talking about technologies in a phone that you have not even heard about and you look at your phone in disgust and ask, can this cat do something like this. And when it was time to change my phone, i did a great deal of market survey and reached the conclusion that i was going to buy a Nokia N 95 phone. But it wasn't until i had bought the phone that i realised that i had made such a super choice. this phone is just great as a simple phone to talk and listen. i mean it has a great microphone and speakers, but add to it the good media player they have provided and the five megapixels camera that has a stunning photo quality, and it is a great deal for the money that you are spending. it also has a user friendly and pretty decent slider function that slides both ways to give you the keyboard on one side and the media player controls on the other.
