The Nokia 5300 is one of Nokia's better looking phones in recent years. This is part of their Xpress Music line and is suprisingly capable as an MP3 player. I've actually found myself moving away from my old iPod Mini to my 5300 as my main source of music, the only musical drawback is that you have to use a plugin converter to use standard head phones, pretty much a pain to carry the little plug around. As far as the phone itself is concernced it is a rather large, solidly built slider. 5-way nav, 2 soft keys, and the standard Answer and Reject keys adorn the front with a standalone power button on the top of the phone. the 5300 has 3 music buttons on the right side that are perfect for the audio player and on the opposite side are the two volume keys as well as a dedicated camera button. The camera is a 1.3 megapixel but takes rather nice quality shots for such a low mp; better than the 2megapixel offerings of the comparable Moto RIZR. The phone also offers low-resolution video in the 3gp format. The lens is located on the outside of the phone (not hidden by the slide) and operates in a landscape mode like your classic point and shoot. As a Symbian S40 phone it is highly customizable. You can easily set your own MP3 and M4A files as ringtones as well as set up custom wallpapers, themes, caller tones and videos. The menu's move quickly with minimal lag and are easy to navigate with the phone both open and shut. The keys are tactile and easy to text with, the T9 predictive works quite nicely and is a snap to add your own words to.Battery life is on the short side but can be greatly helped by keeping bluetooth off, not playing games too much, and using the camera only when you need to, and the biggest (for me) turning off the auto-keylock. The reason for disabling this is that everytime you close the slide it takes several seconds for the display to dim then go to standby, several seconds after that the auto keylock enables which brings your screen back to full brightness so you can read the lovely message proclaiming that your keyguard is on. For an avid texter like myself who opens and shuts the phone regularly, this is a battery killer. Always charge this phone every night if you do anything more than make quick regular calls on it.The 5300 only has 5mb of onboard memory but offsets that by including a 1gb microsd card in the retail package. The card slot is behind the battery cover but is accesible without removing the battery.TIP: always open the slide before you remove the battery cover, its trickier to get open than you might think. The slide is solid but does show some signs of loosening over timeOh yeah, this has a great antenna and call quality as we've come to expect from the folks at nokia :)Other features I forgot to mention:Full-featured Bluetooth/IRVoice activated functions and dialingseperate charging and headset portseasy to install games onall in all a great phone I would give the Nokia 5300 a 8/10**Product Summary:****The good:** The Nokia 5300 world phone has a great display, user-friendly controls, and a wide range of features including a music player, a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, an expandable memory slot, and support for push-to-talk networks. Plus, it delivers on performance as well.

**The bad:** The Nokia 5300's memory card slot is an inconvenient location, and its internal memory is a measly 5MB.

**The bottom line:** The Nokia 5300 is a well-designed, user-friendly music cell phone that offers an amazing range of features backed up by outstanding performance.

I got a Nokia Tracfone a few years back just before a 5 day trip to Arizona. I thought it would be a good thing to have to keep in touch with My Husband who stayed home. I called Him at the Detroit airport and We spoke just before My flight, when I got to Arizona I called and was not able to get through. My phone told Me I didn't have long distance, so I had to call Him from My cousin's phone. When I got home from My trip I called Tracfone to complain and they told Me I had to send My brand new phone back because something was wrong with it. I sent back My new phone and they sent Me back a reconditioned phone, so here I was with a reconditioned phone instead of My brand new phone I just bought. I kept it because there was nothing else I could do and I wanted a cell phone just for emergencies, and at least I had one now.I used it for a few years adding minutes with cards puchased for that purpose. About 3 years ago My Husband put Me on a family plan with Him and I got a new cell phone with Our cell provider. When I stopped using My Tracfone there was no way to get a refund on what minutes I had left so I lost out. I was very unsatisfied with the interception of the Tracfone also. Don't waste Your money on a Nokia Tracfone!!!

Nice small, good working phone.

By

from Beulah, ND

Comments about Nokia - Cell Phone:

I have liked using the Nokia phones and the price is right, FREE!!

We have had our phone for two years now and this is the first one that has kept it's charge the longest.

The only down fall is that I can not get numbers added to my contacts. I have tried to put numbers and names in but as soon as I make a mistake I am not able to go back and fix it, so I have to start all over again.

Other then that it has been a very nice phone.

everything but the kitchen sink

By

from New York, NY

Comments about Nokia - Cell Phone:

This is a great phone/camera/mp3 player/radio. I've had the phone for about 4 months. I do use my iPod as a music player more than I use this phone for that purpose, but it is a good music player and the built-in FM radio is especially handy. It is also a really decent digital camera for a camera phone and it's very simple to transfer music and pics to the computer with the USB cable.

If you're all about music, this phone is for you!

By

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Nokia - Cell Phone:

I have had this 5300 for a little over a year now. If you're into music and barely use your phone, you will love this little guy. You receive a 1gb memory card with the phone to upload your tunes right away, as well as headphones. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but my phone seems a little possessed sometimes while writing texts. I will be typing a text and it will just start to delete everything I have written, I have to press the arrow key to get it to stop.

My friends and family have complained a lot about the call quality on this phone, not being able to hear me half the time.

This is definitely not the best phone I've ever had, but for the price I paid (free) it has served me well and stayed together and working for over a year, which is a feat with phones these days. I'd definitely reccommend it for teens and younger people, who are more interested in texting and music than high quality calls.

With this phone, you don't need a digital camera!

By

from Houston, TX

Comments about Nokia - Cell Phone:

The Nokia 5610 Xpress Music phone is a very versatile piece of digital equipment! Not only is it a phone (obviously), it also is an MP3 player, an FM radio, and a really sweet digital camera with video. It comes in an assortment of colors and already has a micro-SD card included. It comes with a USB cable for use with your computer to sync your phonebook and transfer MP3 files and pictures. It is extremely compact and slides open to reveal the key pad.

My husband and I both have this phone through T-Mobile and we didn't realize what a great phone we were getting when we ordered it. We have had very good luck with the durability of Nokia phones, and so far so good...mine's already been dropped several times. The sound clarity is excellent and the slide-open feature is nice to prevent accidental spills from getting into the phone and also to prevent those accidental "pocket calls."

The MP3 player is really neat. Just load your files on and you are good to go! The sound is much better with earphones but you can still jam out without them. The FM radio is a nice feature too if you are hanging out at the park or the beach, but you have to use the earphones because that is where the FM antenna is.

The sweetest deal of this whole phone is the camera! We are not really into cell phones as cameras, so we didn't choose the phone based on that, but boy were we surprised at how excellent this little thing is! It has 3.2 megapixels which is plenty for a picture as big as an 8x10. And it even has a flash!! That is usually the downfall of many of the cell phone cameras...no flash equals some pretty dark pictures that are no good. For casual trips we don't even bother with a camera any more.

The only negative about this phone is that the center navigation button is a little hard to press sometimes. When you press it straight down, it sometimes read it as trying to navigate left/right/up/down. This is a bit frustrating at times, but we put up with it because the other features are so nice.

Bottom line, this is a really sweet phone. The user-friendly interface, USB cable, and slide-open feature make it an easy-to-use phone right out of the box. The MP3 player and camera make it a really fun choice. Notice I didn't talk about the web capabilities because we are still behind the times on that.

The Nokia Xpress Music phone is awsome.

By

from Lawrence, KS

Comments about Nokia - Cell Phone:

This is a very good product. It has so many features to choose from. It has a buit in video camera with lighting. It also has a flash camera. I would recomend this product others considering what type of cell phone to get through T-Mobil. Although it does not have a key board. That is the only thing I have found not so appealing. If you love to text then you might not want to consider this phone.

I can get on the internet fairly easy. It does have a special feature just for your e-mail. This way you can go directly to your e-mail with out getting on the internet first. It also has instant messaging. You can choose this option very easy. And save it on your phone so you don't have to sign in evry time you want to IM some one. The phone will aslo let you know when you have an IM or a new e-mail coming through.

I love the FM radio. It is great. I can choose my favorite FM station & save my options just like I do on my computor. I also can veiw and down load videos. This is something I enjoy. And when you recieve a call coming through the music will be on hold automatically.

MP3 is great I can download misic from my cmputor directly to my phone. And I also can delete music as well.

The camera is awsome I can download my picture I took from my phone directly on the computor for future use.

Nokia 5300 - Best Non-Smartphone on the market

By

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Nokia - Cell Phone:

I had one of these phones a couple years back before buying my first smartphone. It was a real trooper. It had been dropped multiple times in my front driveway and never stopped working. Love the ease of use and access to loading and removing pic and music to and from it. My only problems with it were the battery cover which was difficult to remove and the location of the MicroSD port (under the battery cover). Other than those 2 items, I would absolutely purchase another one. It won't take photo contest grade pictures, but that isn't really what you are buying it for. A great first phone for anyone that you don't think is ready for a smartphone. Or for anyone that only wants something for showing off pictures and making calls.
