On the surface, this phone is nice. It's small, compact and doesn't offer excess frills for a high price. It includes
This Verizon phone, although dated in 2007, proves that you still can find a nice, basic phone with just a few updated features without having to pay an expensive price.
Initial Thoughts
This was my first flip cell phone, which meant to me that it was pretty darn spiffy. The camera aspect was incredible interesting to me and was something I had only heard of before (when it comes to phones, I can be behind in the times!). I originally thought I would use the MP3 aspect of it, especially when I found out you can buy an application to make lights pulse and change colors to select songs.
The Pros
1) Great buy for its price - it's not fancy, but it's not complete basic that you are bored with it. You get a camera phone AND pretty impressive talk time.
2) Bluetooth - while I don't use Bluetooth, it's still nice to have it as an option.
3) Applications - this came out before the iPhone, but its features are pretty impressive. It has a nice selection of games and web-based features that can be used for demo (limited time) or purchased for full use.
4) Layout - the actual layout of the buttons on this phone are dummy-proof. You just can't mess up this phone without really trying. If you want speakerphone, the button can easily be pressed.
5) Extendable Antenna - To some this may be a silly addition. However, I travel in places where cell towers aren't guaranteed to be nearby. Having the antenna does make it easier to get a signal in places where I may not be able to do that.
6) Design - Personally, I like this camera's look. Compared to other phones I've owned, this is probably the most high-tech looking camera I've ever owned! It's black and silver look really seems attractive to me. However, it's all about your expectations.
7) Internal Memory - 21.5 MB of internal storage seems to be plenty for my needs. For others, this may also be a negative because when you start getting serious about the photos, it fills up quickly. See below for information about the camera.
The Cons
1) MP3 falls shorts - there's no better way to put it. It's not meant for being an MP3 player. It's an added bonus, but it's not the main function. It's like calling a car an iPod accessory. The main purpose of this cell phone is to make calls, not play music. This didn't bother me much, but if you expect a great MP3 player, you're mistaken.
2) Camera lacks - the colors are fine, but the clarity leaves much to be desired. Considering that other camera phones can produce beautiful quality photos, it's shocking to be using a camera that really doesn't do much.
3) Missing Durability- I had my first phone for four years and never had a problem. I have had this phone for 2 years and am already having problems with it wearing out. Maybe I'm just expecting too much?
4) Dropped calls -this has been an issue in the last few weeks. Dropped calls with this phone seem to be the norm. I know that if I'm using this phone for more than 10 minutes, I can expect for the call to drop at least once.
5) Call logs- this is really more of a pet peeve to me. Let's say I call my husband at 12:30 pm and then again at 1:00 pm. I wanted to see when I called him first, so I look at my "dialed calls" log. It will ONLY show the most recent call, unless I made a call in between those calls.
Overall
This is a good phone. If you want to use it as a phone, you will be having no problems. If you want to use this phone as an MP3 player, however, you're better off investing $50 in an MP3 shuffle than using this phone.
So would I recommend this to a friend? Sure...in 2007. Today there are so many bigger and better phones out there.
