I really didn't know much about this movie going in, other than it had been nominated for a lot of Academy Awards, which, in my opinion, doesn't always mean it's going to be a great movie....but, this one was! — The "bad guy" of this film, Anton Chigurh, played by Javier Bardem, is one of… read full review »

The Verdict - I must have been absent the day they passed out the Cliff's Notes for this movie because apparently I missed something.  No Country For Old Men was probably the worst movie I've ever seen in my entire life.  I didn't get it, I didn't like it, and I don't understand what all… read full review »

Let me start by saying I ADORE Cormac McCarthy. He is hands down my favorite author, so call me biased when I say I loved this book as well. Not much more to say, everyone has an opinion, but if you like men of little words and tons of description, feeling and tone. then Mr. McCarthy is for you. — — —… read full review »

All of the acting was amazing and unforgettable, especially the evil villain, cold + calculating force of what I would term as death or the grim reaper- played by Javier Bardem. He was, in many ways, all-knowing, almost omnipotent in presence.     — This character known as, Anton Chigurh, was one of the most bone-chilling, sinister, and without feeling- of characters I have seen in recent years. He made your skin crawl. He was like a machine. The only comparison I can conjure up- is that it was reminiscent to the way I felt… read full review »

I went into this movie not know what to expect and by the end I thought that it was average at best. Before I go into what I did not like about this film, let me briefly describe some of the things I did like. — — The cinematography and pacing of the film is excellent. The early landscape scenes with Moss are some of the most breathtaking scenes I have ever scene. The land's striking beauty amongst the rotting dead is visually magnificent. I like the whole idea of flipping a coin to decide one's fate and the fact that the girl says "I'm not going to pick, it has to be just… read full review »

The cast in "No Country for Old Men" was great.  There was a lot surprising twists and turns and plenty of shooting but the story line was little to be desired.  I mean come on, drugs, money, and theft.  The only difference with this movie than any other drug movie was it was based on older characters rather than your typical younger drug cartel.  — Javier Bardem was amazing, I have to admit that I have never seen him in anything else but he had me convinced in his character.  He totally made the movie and scared the wits out of you, he was totally… read full review »

I love movies, but I rarely venture to Blockbuster. Really, why pay $5.00 for a movie I know will show up on HBO in 2 months? Regardless, I took a chance and rented No Country for Old Men. The academy seemed to love it, as did the reviewers; could I really go wrong? — — Yes. — — To say the very least. It was confussing as hell, boring as hell, and backwards as hell. It was impossible to follow the story, nevermind become at all transfixed in the characters. Don't waste your time, you're better off renting ratatouille- it's more… read full review »

For movie fans, the arrival of a new film by Joel and Ethan Coen is always cause for celebration. Their work is consistently interesting – the brothers pepper their screenplays with sharp twists and quirky humor, and they know how to engage an audience with sound, imagery and camera movement in a style distinctly their own. — No Country for Old Men is a return to the Texas noir territory of their debut effort Blood Simple (1984), another modern day western full of well weathered characters and sudden pulpy violence. It has a bit of the Coen brand of dark comedy, but this is not a… read full review »

When this movie started, I was a little skeptical that I would like it, after all, with that title??? But as the story went on, the character was more explained and developed and I liked that he went back to give the man water, it made it the reason he was chased for the rest of the movie. I liked that the Tommy Lee Jones was honest and a good cop, even if he was plagued by a dumb deputy! He was cynical, dry and witty. The psycho was a little funny with his methodical way of kiling people, I liked that he gave the old man a chance with the coin, although he didn't have to be such a bone-head… read full review »

I enjoyed this book so much it was exciting and very easy reading for anyone. It was very action packed and left you wandering what you might do in the same situation. i have read another of this persons books and everyone that i have come in contact with has been great page turners. he sets the stage and does not dwell to awful long on surroundings just long enough to put you there.  the ending was a little disappointing but I can not say why because it will spoil it for others. i often only keep books that really could possibly read again at a much later date and this is one… read full review »

It's worthy of all its Oscar nominations, hands down. The Coen Brothers do a great job (until the last 30 minutes) adapting the novel to the screen. But at the end, the strain of adapting this novel began to show. The brilliant ending in the book is ...(read more)poorly executed and left many people in the audience with me disappointed. I thought the suspense and action of the book were brilliantly portrayed. Bardem will probably win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. But the Coen Brothers lost their way near the end of this one, and unfortunately, kept this movie from truly becoming a… read full review »

I must admit that I'm a little biased because I'm a HUGE Javier Bardem fan (Before Night Falls, The Sea Inside, The Dancer Upstairs) so I went in with HUGE expectations.  What I didn't expect was to love the performance from Josh Brolin & Tommy Lee Jones.  Hilarious!!!  Bardem killed his role...one of the worst villains in a looooonnng time.  My only complaint about the movie was the last 10 minutes.  I'm still shaking my head wondering what that was all about.  But from beginning to that part, loved… read full review »

So my mistake was drifting off in the last 10 minutes when we get to point of this film. The action is good. The overall movement was slow. A guy fell asleep in the theater and started snoring. The movie was so boring more people were interested in that than the movie. If you're looking for an action "wtf" film (like what the ads make it look like) don't see… read full review »
