This Nissan Versa is our second, the first one, a 2008, what can I say? It saved my life, or at least kept me from becoming a traffic statistic. Some of you know how we were trained in the 60"s about defensive driving? I have practiced it for fourty years now and have managed to keep the OTHER drivers, if that is what you can call them, I personally would call them something else, no, not one of those explatives; something less offensive, like "Demolition Drivers!", from manageing to get through my defence's. The other person tried to jump through a very small gap in traffic, with the light red in her lane and to say the least impressed me with the statment, "I thought if I gunned it I would make it.". Thank God I was driving the Versa. The last thing I remember was thinking "No way is that driver going to actually pull in front of me?" then the horrible sound of the tires clawing at the pavement desperatly trying to stop the destruction of my wife's pride and joy, only her second "new" car in her life. Then the bang! The smell of the air bag propellant and the thought, "Oh God how am I going to fix this one. You see I am one of those men that thinks that they can fix anything that is broken. Needless to say, after the confusion of answering the EMT's questions, and then the police's "Do you have a witness?" Then a real nice young lady's "Yes I saw the whole thing!" Then my son showing up with the camera and taking me by the hand and walking me over to the grassy island of the intersection and my first look at what I though I was going to fix. No way, I couldn't believe I had walked away from it! Both cars totally destroyed, the Demolition Expert's car, one of those heavy Detroit GM monsters now sitting thirty feet away from where it had been before it's driver brought it to it's early grave, and my wife's Versa, now sitting there with that perfect deep shiny black paint having been turned into what looked like a scene from Bagdad, no way could I fix that! But I was not even scratched! Oh, my ears were ringing from the multiple airbags going off, but the only thing I could think of was, "What am I going to say to my wife?" I will attempt to shorten this novel, to make a miracle survival story into a breath of relief, when the insurance agent told us to go get a new car, we headed strait to the Nissan dealer, and then we picked out this beautiful white SL. Why the title of "Defied the laws of space and energy!"? In this beautiful little car, there is no sensation that your are actually in an economy car, there is enough room in it that a trip to the next town with our son, his wife and our beautiful little grandaughter, and her carseat, seems like we are all sitting in our living room. I don't know how they put that much room in that little package. It is a mystery. The seats are more comfortable that anything I have been in in my fourty years of driving, and I have driven some pretty nice cars, the airconditioning system is set it and forget it, the 6 cd sound system is remarkable and the CVT transmission is smoother than anything I have ever driven. This is deffinately a tall hair car, and my 6 foot 4 inch son has at least a foot of room for his knees to "bump" against. There is only one draw back, it is the continous quarrel between my wife and I, who is going to get to drive it. Oh, yes, there is one other thing that kinda bugs me, but I will let it go, it is that light that comes on about every two weeks, you know the one that lets you know your low on fuel. If it weren't for that thing I wouldn't ever stop to fill it up. All around this is one car that the "Big Three" need to worry about. The sticker price made it possible for us to not even have to finance it, the insurance check and a couple hundred we had stuck in the cookie jar kept us from having to pay any finance charges at all. Nice!
