Thanks to Hertz Car Rental, I was able to spend quite a bit of time in San Diego, CA driving around in a brand new Nissan Murano 2009.  For those who like the technical details:

Features of the Nissan Murano 2009

  • Luxury model
  • 6 cyl, 3.5L
  • mid size SUV
  • AWD
  • 5 passenger seating
  • TONS of safety features
  • MSRP approximately $35,000
What I liked about the 2009 Nissan Murano
  • comfortable with lots of leg and head room
  • easily seats 3 in the back even with car seats
  • deceptively large storage space (it looks small)
  • sound system
  • approximately 25 miles to the gallon highway
  • easy riding even on tough roads
  • easy to lift rear door
What I don't like about the 2009 Nissan Murano
  • hard to start - you have to do certain things in a certain order before starting
  • keyless ignition
  • hard to find features/accessories
  • children can easily open the doors (as we found out)
  • child lock out also locks out front passenger (I had to ASK my husband to roll down my window and unlock my door)
  • funky remotes, you have to do everything a certain order to make it work
My Viewpoint:  The 2009 Nissan Murano was quite comfortable. The ride, seating, and storage was very useful.  The sound system was nice, as well as individual temperature settings for passenger and driver.  While all these things were nice, I wouldn't purchase the Nissan Murano 2009.  The sticker price alone is enough to scare me off, and some of the things I disliked about it would eventually drive me nuts (after almost a week it did!).  Can you imagine not even being able to get out of the car until you were "allowed" to by the driver?  Don't get me wrong, the rental price was great and Hertz did a wonderful job giving us an upgrade, but while the "specs" on this mid sized SUV look good, the actually use and price of it does not.  For that much money I can get a car with better gas mileage and one that doesn't drive me nuts with some weird "kinks" to the features.

The selective door unlocking can be programmed to unlock the doors when the car shifts into park, instead of when the car is turned off, just check the manual

Good to know, although I probably would not consider a Nissan anyway.
