Nintendo Wii - Wii Sports —

Wii Sports

About Me:

O.K. I haven't played a video game since PacMan was new folks.  So far, our home has  avoided all hand held video games and any games that works with our television.

About Wii:

Wii Sports is a all in collection of five games including bowling, baseball, boxing, golf and tennis.  To participate you do hold a hand held remote but you move your whole body in  the natural movement patterns you would use for each sport.

My Preconceptions:

My daughter had seen and played Wii Sports at her grandmother's house and she loved it. She said it was fun and that she had really worked up a sweat playing the boxing games.

Still, my thinking was "go outside and play and work up a sweat and get some vitamin D and keep the television off."

My Conversion:

My conversion came at a recent girl's night out.  We usually play cards.  I was at first disappointed when I heard that we were going to play Wii Sports instead of cards.

Soon however, I was converted.  We began with bowling which was a lot of fun.  Then we played golf.  I didn't enjoy golf as well but I don't enjoy golf in reality either so that may be why.  Tennis was my absolute favorite, probably because I love tennis in real life too.  We did boxing last and I thought that it was both challenging and fun.  I never tried the baseball.

At the end of three hours all of us had enjoyed a lot of laughs and a really good work out.  So much so that I didn't think twice about having a pistachio brownie before heading home.

My Viewpoint:

Now I want a Wii Sports game.  I still think families should get outside and grab a racket or a glove or go to the bowling alley and rent the ugly shoes.  However, I think Wii Sports could be a fun family activity or good way to get a work out at home.  I think tennis and boxing could really give you a good cardio work out and all of the games could work on flexibility and coordination.  While I think Wii Sports or any video games should be limited, this Wii Sports could really be a way to get some exercise during the winter.  I still like to play cards but I'll Wii anytime.

I totally agree. My husband has wanted to get one but I was like, they are too expensive. Then I was at a friends house and played tennis on the sports disk and LOVED IT! I think we might get one for christmas! Great review.

In response to Katrena's comment from Oct 28, 2008 at 4:31PM:

My Mom is very cool. This is what she asked for for her birthday and she and her friends love it.

Interesting--so they were introduced to this at grandma's house. I'm smiling. :)
