Nintendo Wii - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess —

It's time to call in sick, skip that class or break out of jail because there is yet another Legend of Zelda adventure waiting to be played and this time it's on the Nintendo Wii. Not only is this another long quest to save the mystical land of Hyrule from disaster but the game ditches that lame kiddish look from the GameCube edition for a more mature feel. The game even sports a new Teen rating because of it. So is this one any good, what am I saying: of course it's good!

The story is a lot like other Zelda games. In it you play the young man Link and he starts out his adventure as a poor farmer in rural village when everything is still peaceful. Of course the game would suck if something bad didn't happen, eh? Link's land quickly gets invaded by soldiers in an parallel universe known as the Twilight Realm and you got to go out and kick their heads in. That's easier said then done especially since you have to explore several dungeons and jump across two worlds to free Hyrule from a huge curse.

If you are a fan of past Zelda games you will notice a lot of tradiational weapons like the boomerang and steel boots are still here. The big diffenence now is you get to use your Wii to play. The sword for example is used by swinging the Wii-mote around and long range weapons like the grabbling hook and crossbow are done with the Wii-cursor. It takes some getting use to if you played these type of games on a standard controller but once you mastered it you won't want to go back to the old way. The fishing mini game really feels natural here. Another big change to the series is Link can be transformed into a wolf. The wolf form can't use weapons but he do other cool things like track strong scents and even talk to other animals.

The wolf not only adds a lot to the game play but it even looks cool and that moves me to the game's graphics. The land of Hyrule is absolutely huge and filled with highly detailed landscapes that take a long time to travel across but at least the game throws a lot of well designed enemies and gigantic bosses at you to fight off. It isn't all good though. If you put the two GameCube and Wii versions of TP side by side you won't notice much of a difference which is disappointing but the great art really overshadows a few bland textures. The music is also awesome but it too sounds a bit outdated and the game has zero voice acting as well. If there is ever a sequel Nintendo better spend more loot on the presentation.

When Zelda The Wind Waker was released on the GameCube it sold well but it wasn't nearly as successful as past games in the series and because it bombed and Nintendo slipped down to third place behind Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo wanted to make sure they didn't screw this one up and it shows. With the game's super long length, excellent art style, and massive list of items it really makes it hard to put down the Wii-mote. Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess is definitely one of the best games you can buy on the Wii.

Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess overall rating: 93/100

For 1 player only
Rated T for Teen
graphics: 8/10
sound: 8/10
gameplay: 10/10
replay: 8/10
