I have been playing video games for decades now and one of my all time favourite video games ever made was the incredible Resident Evil 4. This intense surivor horror game not only had great controls and excellent weapons but it was one of the best looking games in 2005 and I even liked seeing my head get cut off by a chainsaw since it looked so cool. Because of it's success the game was quickly ported to other consoles and now it even makes a stop off at the Nintendo Wii as well. Can the new controls here revive this remake or is it too little, too late?

The game's story reminds uncharged from the earlier editions of RE4. The events here take place 6 years after the disaster in Resident Evil 2. The Umbrella Corporation that was responsible for an massive zombie infestation is no longer in business after the huge scandal and survivor Leon Kennedy is now a highly skilled secret agent. Leon is now on a new mission to find and rescue the president's daughter (Ashley) from a remote European village. It sounds like an easy enough job until you meet some of the very hostile villagers there. They are not quite human but they are also not the standard zombies that you would find in past games. These aggressive residents will use weapons, they duck if you point a gun at their head and they are will even call for reinforcements. One of the coolest new features in this RE is figuring out what is really going on here and unlocking the mystery.

OK, the story is nothing new but the game does use the Wii-mote to improve the controls. If someone starts attacking you simply pull out any gun and start aiming your shot with the new controller cursor instead of the analog stick and for a knife slash you can just swing the controller left or right. These new controls do take some getting use to but they actually work better then the old set up plus the game even lets you use the classic or GameCube controller if liked the old way. Sadly, you still have to hold a button down and stand still if you want to use any long range weapon but it's like that in most Resident Evil games anyway.

Another bummer if you're a fan of the original RE4 is you won't find any new content here. You do get the Playstation2 extra goodies like Ada Wong's Separte Ways missions and bonus outfits not found on the GameCube version and that's it. Other then that there are no missions, no bonus characters, or even extra weapons in the Wii edition which is very disappointing especially considering this game was already two years old.

Even the graphics look the same here but to be fair they are still incredible. If you are new to the game everything is completely done in 3D so you can forget about wandering across some lame pre-rendered still art like in older RE's (I always hated that). All the environments have a high level of detail and the different creatures look amazing especially the freaky bosses. The audio is also top notch with eerie music when you are being attacked, realistic sound effects for everything you could imagation, and even decent voice acting that puts a lot Hollywood films to shame (including Resident Evil the movie). Again nothing has changed in presentation for this remake but Resident Evil 4 is so good looking that it actually beats out a lot of other original Wii games.

There is a lot to like and a lot to hate with this game. The new controls really help speed up the action, there is true widescreen support for owners of those fancy TV's, and the budget price are all great reasons to either play it again or try this huge adventure for the first time. Yeah, it really sucks there is nothing new content-wise for a last generation title but there is no denying Resident Evil 4 is still one of the greatest games ever made and an absolute must play for anyone looking for thrilling action title on the Wii.
