If you played Metroid Prime and Prime 2: Echoes, this game is a must have. If you haven't played the first two, you don't know what you are missing. This game picks up right where the last two left off. If you are a fan of first person shooters, this is quickly becoming one of the quintessential games of the genre. The controls are perfectly tuned to accurately follow the Wii remote as it is moved around the screen. Some purists of PC first person shooters may prefer a mouse and keyboard, and I used to be one of them, until I played Prime 3. The controls are so tight and accurate, you almost think you are playing with a mouse and keyboard.
The graphics are the best yet for the Wii and everything is highly polished. The individual details of each world are simply stunning. In addition the music fits perfectly with each environment and encounter. Plus, those who have played previous Metroids will catch some of the original Metroid themes throughout.
The length of the game was also a plus. The varied worlds and typical Metroid backtracking make the game come in at just over 20+ hours. Not long enough to tire you out but not too short either. However, the game does leave you wanting more, much more!
Metroid purists may be put off by the fact that this Metroid does not have the feel of isolation of past Metroids. You are constantly in contact with others, including the Federation as well as several "sentient" computers. But it doesn't detract from the game and is a refreshing change to the series.
You really can't go wrong with this game. If you own a Wii, this game is a must have. If you don't own a Wii, this game justifies the purchase.
