Nintendo Wii - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption —

Oh ya! The StarSoldier has been a fan of these Metroid games ever since the first one came out on the NES in 1987 and now it returns here on the Nintendo Wii in Metroid Prime 3 Corruption. Nintendo was even kind enough to hype the latest installment by releasing special demos and even the original 8-bit and 16-bit editions on the Virtual Control all in the same month. Of course all this hype can come back and bite them in their Wii if it stinks to high heaven but that's not going to happen here thanks to the game's jaw dropping graphics, imagitive controls, and compelling action/adventure based game play here.

The story begins has the hot chick bounty hunter Samus Aran is on a routine mission to earn some cash but then suddenly she gets infected by a unknown virus. Remember guys, always use a condom while doing it. Now Samus and her fellow Hunter friends are searching the hostle galaxy for a cure.

Just like the past Metroid Prime games this is mostly a first person shooter where you kill aliens and solve mysterious puzzles to unlock new areas of the game. The big difference now is you'll be using the Wii-mote this time to move and aim. Yeah, it takes some getting use to since you're pointing at the screen like a lot of Wii games but there are three different control set ups to help ease into the experience. The Nun-chuck side of things can be used for Samus's grappling beam or turning on switches. Further into the game Samus can even use this virus to her advantage by firing off some insanely powerful shots but only for a limited time.

Just when you think the game couldn't get any better you actually take a closer look at these stunning fully 3D world, spot on lighting effects and highly detailed characters here and forget your playing this on the Wii. Each new world you travel to has it own unique style and that includes different hazards and intense boss fights. This Metroid game is not only easily one of the best looking titles for the Wii but it's one of best looking games I even seen period. This proof that I don't need to pay 600 bucks to get cutting edge visuals and yes, I'm looking at you Sony. The game even has full voice acting too which is surprising since a lot of Nintendo games like Super Paper Mario and Twilight Princess force you to read everything.

In a sea of dismal Wii FPS games like Fry Cry Vengeance, Metal of Honor Vanguard and Red Steel it's great to play a huge adventure title finally that exposes the others for the crap they are. The only thing bad I can say is it has a few overly long loading scenes and it still plays a lot like the other Prime games but only with better audio, graphics, and play control. In the end this game is a dream come true for both Wii owners and Metroid fans.

Metroid Prime 3 Corruption overall rating: 95/100

For 1 player only
Rated (T) for Teen
graphics: 10/10
sound: 9/10
gameplay: 8/10
replay: 8/10

The Wii's are hard to get, eh? Thanks for the comments, it's always cool to hear from other Metroid fans out there.

This review is so great. I love your writing style--very funny. I have been a long-time metroid fan. In the beginning I loved playing the game, and once I learned that the main character is actually a woman, I liked it even more! I totally want this...now all I need is a Wii!!
