The Nintendo Wii is one of the best systems out there!
I've been playing video games since the Atari. I've had a total of eleven different video game consoles and hand-held systems throughout my life and the Nintendo Wii is without a doubt in my top three! (also included are the Playstation 2 and the Nintendo DS).
The controls are exceptionally innovative - the main controller is a remote with a very simple point-and-click function. Some games also use an attachment to the remote which is just a simple joystick.
The games for the Wii are so varied! There are games for people all ages, levels of gaming experience, and interests. One of the most popular games right now is a sports game called 'Wii Sports' in which you and friends can go bowling, play game of tennis or baseball, or even golf. In these games you use the remote and mimic the real-life motions of whatever you're playing. Hold and swing the remote to hit a baseball coming at you, point it down and gently tap a golf ball for a perfect putt. The game comes standard with the console and one remote.
Sports aren't your thing? Other games include "Cooking Mama" in which you use the remote to chop, stir, pound, roll or season various foods with the goal of preparing dozens and dozens of dishes, "Mario Party", which is a board game in which players compete in minigames to get ahead of each other, and more traditional games like "Super Mario Brothers".
The Wii also has many features built into the system. It can connect to the internet using WiFi and give you instant updates on news and weather from all over the world. You can also buy games for $1-$20 from previous Nintendo consoles (like the NES, Super Nintendo and Gamecube.) and play them on your Wii.

There are a lot of rivals out there for the Wii right now like the XBox 360 and the PlayStation 3. In my opinion those are both very weak competitors. The Nintendo Wii costs only $250 (XBox - minimum of $350, PlayStation - minimum of $400) and it's games each cost $50 (rival system games cost $60). The Wii's games are far more plentiful and diverse in target players, and there are a lot more multi-player games for the Wii than any other system. It is true that the Wii's graphics are a little behind the other consoles, but they're more than enough to satisfy.

There's also a rumor that you need a lot of space to play the Wii, but that's totally false. I play many of my Wii games just sitting on the couch like I would any other game. The Wii offers you the option to stand up and get more active, though, and that's really nice.
