When our son-in-law asked for a new video game for him and my grandkids last Christmas, I had no idea what he was talking about. The game was by Nintendo and it was called the Wii. We went looking and finally ended up with a gift card for the Wii at WalMart as the game sold out as soon as it came in. They finally picked it up in late January or early February. When we went to their house for a visit we were introduced to the Wii. We fished, did target practice, matched some Wii people, and a hilarious race game called "Cow Racing". Cow Racing was so much fun that I couldn't keep my cow on the track because I was laughing too much. Then they slid another disc into the slot, called "Wii Sports". We played tennis, bowling, golf, and baseball. I never knew that a video game could be so much fun.
When we got home from our visit with them, my husband went right out looking for the game. Even in May Wii was hard to find, but we found one, brought it home and set it up. Almost every night my husband or I say, "Let's go play."
We had never played golf other than miniature golf. My best game is -6 and my husband's is -9, we also have a pro-status on the Wii. Our high game bowling is 246 and 266, we have pro-status in that as well.
When our son-in-law was up for a visit last week, he wanted to get me into boxing. I reluctantly agreed. I knocked him out. I sure did feel great. The next time we played I made him play golf, knowing that it's not really his game. We also played tennis with four people which was really a lot of fun. We bowled with the 7 & 9 year olds and occasionally with the 3 year old. We even got our grown son into the action. Seems like when you have more people playing, you have more fun.
Our daughter uses it for her exercise. She was able to find a chart to tell her how many calories she was burning. http://www.workoutwithwii.com/content/view/38/1/
There is an area of the Wii Sports you use to find out your fitness age. Since I never played very many sports in my teen years my fitness age jumps all over. However I have been hitting the 20's a little more often lately. I also have problems with my knees and can't do regular bowling. This game I don't have to bend my knees and put pressure on them. There are some people who do the sports from their arm chair.
The important thing to remember when playing the Wii is to make sure you have the wrist strap securely fastened around your wrist. If it is not secure, there may be some ruined TV's.
The game comes with everything you need to start except a TV. There are accessories you can purchase separately such as addition wiimotes, nunchuk which are needed for boxing, chargers, batteries and additional games. Then of course you can hook it to a wireless network and get the updates and a whole lot more.
There are lots of games on the market for the Wii. The last one we got was Big Brain Wii with Diploma. It's similar to the DS Big Brain, but you can interact with other people a lot better. Yes, we have the DS too. Maybe that will be another review.

I decided not to write my own review for this system as the above review is a great one, but just wanted to add my 2 cents real quick. The Wii is a great game system and everyone I know loves it. Many of them are perfectly happy with the sports game that comes with the system, you can't beat the bowling! I bought this system after playing it at a friends and my husband and I love it, we are late 20's, early 30's. My mom played my wii and she wanted one, another friend played our wii and he wanted one. It is addictive and fun and there are quite a few decent games to get with it, hope more are coming along - can't wait for Mario Kart. It's definitely something you can get a work out with, just try the boxing!! There are times when I make sure my curtains are closed before I play, because anyone looking in and seeing the movements and gestures that go along with the game might think I am insane, but it is fun and active. If you are going to sit in front of the tv with a game, why not get one that gives you the option to NOT sit! Lots of fun and I highly recommend this system! ~Erin, www.ladyabbies.com

I am happy to hear that families are still getting together for some "fun" time. My husband and I have been debating on whether or not we are going to make a new video game purchase this Christmas and after talking with a lot of people we are finding that the 'wii' is by far the most interactive video game out there. I know the graphics aren't what the others are ... but needing the dvd/blu-ray playback isn't really a problem for us.
Thanks for all of your review knowledge!

I loved this review! I have been looking at the Wii but haven't taken the plunge yet. Maybe this Christmas. :)
