Nintendo - Super NES Console —

Yeah, the legendary Nintendo Entertainment System (or NES for short) had me and tons of other gamers drooling from the mouth back in the 1980's. Of course with it's huge of list of great and engaging games like Super Mario Bros., Legend of Zelda and Bionic Commando it had me hooked to the TV and avoiding my homework. Despite how good the 8-bit NES was back then it was hard not to notice there were plenty of competitors out there like Turbografx-16 and Sega Genesis that looked so much better and Nintendo needed to get up off their butt and do something about it. Back in 1991 Nintendo would finally release an all new machine with its fancy 16-bit power, advance sound, cool 3D effects, and ..... um other goodies.

When the Super NES first came out back then you not only got the system itself but you also got the big sequel to Super Mario Bros. 3 called Super Mario World has a pack in game. Although the game didn't look like that big of a jump since the game has this overly cute style to it, the game was has fun as ever thanks to the excellent controls and superior level design so it still kicks a lot of back side.

Nintendo was even good friends with Sony believe it or not (before they became bitter rivals) and if you open the system itself you'll see Sony sound chips inside. Because of all this attention to the system's sound the music was really incredible in a lot of the great games like in Act Raiser and Super Metroid for example and some it is almost as good as the stuff you'll hear on CD's. Also Nintendo added some 3D hardware to the Snes as well called Mode 7 (3D sprite scaling). An example of this would be that cool pixel fade in effect on Super Mario World, to the landscape scaling effects in Pilotwings. With all these features it was clear that the Super Nintendo was offering something different to the average game nut out there.

OK, I know the Super Nintendo's time has long since passed but there are still lots of great and exclusive titles here like Secret of Mana, Space Mega Force, and Wario's Woods for it you can't find anywhere else. I also recommend this beast if you looking an easy to get into 2D/3D machine that doesn't have a wacky controller with way too many buttons and I know a lot gamers don't care for these freaky newer 3D titles of today either. They don't call this Super for nothing ya know!

Super Nintendo overall rating: 91/100

Yeah, I use to love the Donkey Kong Country series but they stopped making them after the Super NES kicked the bucket.

They just don't make games like they used to. Sigh.
