The gameboy advance sp is definitely better than the gameboy. Its great that it has a bright screen to see the games and a super volume adjuster. I like the compact size that is easy for even a preschooler to hold. It is durable and can handle some bumps and bruises from roughness. If you want a variety of colors like red, blue, gray. You can even play Gameboy color games on this system. I like the rechargeable battery for you don't have to woorry about batteries. You also can plug in the charger and use the game while it charges.
The volume isnt too loud and can be adjusted or just turned down. Also the bright light can be turned on or turned down. My children prefer to play with the light on for it is brighter and much easier to see the screen than on the older version gameboy color.
I like how you can close up the game and the screen gets protected from dust and dirt. the screen seems to be pretty sturdy and resistant to scratches. The screen does get dirty easy from fingerprints or greasy things but you can clean it with a baby wipe or water.
This could be a good starter game.
