I am not big on video games. I never play with our PlayStation or Xbox 360. I am not coordinated enough to use all the buttons and joysticks and it is more frustrating than fun for me. But I saw the brain teaser games on the TV and I wanted to try it out. My husband got me the pink Nintendo DS lite for my birthday. I also got BrainAge and Big Brain Academy. I love this type of game because it makes you think so it's more interesting to me than some kind of action game. So far this type of game is only available on DS or for personal computer.
The DS lite is small and compact and the games are little cards that are hard to damage. You can also play GameBoy Advance games on it. There's a wireless feature where you can connect with other DS users and play against them.
The stylus for the touch screen part tucks away in the console. It comes with one extra, and if you lose yours they are not expensive to buy. For some games it takes practice to figure out the stylus movements, but once you do, it works well. The only game I have had problems with so far is Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir. You have to find items hidden in a room. Sometimes I have to wail on the touch screen to get it to recognize the item I want to select. I found that if your purchase a stylus with a more pointy tip, like the Rocketfish Gaming Extendable Metal Stylus the touch screen is much more sensitive to it.
I love the games for this. The problem is that the screen is small so it causes eye strain. You have to tap past the eye strain warning everytime you start up the console. I know I shouldn't do this, but I get so into the games I play until my eyeballs hurt and my neck starts to ache. I'm going to end up blind and crippled by the Nintendo DS.
The games for the DS are very reasonable compared to games for traditional consoles. You can buy used ones and travel with more confidence, as the cards do not scratch or break easily.
It comes in a variety of colors and there are many different colored cases, skins, and accessories available for it that are reasonably priced. The battery is rechargeable and does not take too long to charge. For most games, the sound is not necessary, so you can turn it all the way down or use earphones.
There are many great, affordable games for children as well as adults. It's a fun console for all ages and abilities!
