Nintendo DS - Cooking Mama —

Cooking Mama 2 is the first game I bought for our Nintendo DS lite.  The console was a gift from hubby.  The game was for moi! Mama is too cute for words. I was practically giddy all over the first time I heard her say, "Even better than mama!" Very affirming.  I don't think I've ever played a video game that had such a built-in maternal quality to it, it made me wish Cooking Mama was my real mom! Just kidding.

We bought it at Game Stop.  I remember being the only female in the store that day, surrounded by a flock of very knowledgeable and seasoned male video gamers.  One of them commented out of the blue when I picked up Cooking Mama, "Oh, that game is so addictive.  But I don't usually tell people I love it.  I have to tell them I'm playing some really violent game or something."  So - there you go.  Even the macho guy can't resist pleasing the Cooking Mama!

I found it most helpful to practice cooking with mama first before cooking with friends (which you accumulate as you complete recipes).  A few techniques required more than the written instructions to master.  And so the cooking with mama sessions, as well as the cooking tests, are good ways to practice certain techniques - otherwise if you happen to spill a little too much water, or stir the pot too much, be warned, you WILL see the darker side of Mama.

(One technique I truly hate is the blowing on the mic to cool down a boiling pot! Not a good function for a smoker! I do love using the stylus - gives you the sensation of actually making food)

No doubt I'm a sucker for the "girly" games - especially ones like these that reward you with a whole closet of attire, accessories, and new kitchen designs and gadgets that you can use to curb boredom or repetition.  I'm still mad at hubby for giving away my Hello Kitty Game Cube game to his buddy! But, Cooking Mama definitely made up for that blunder! (Thanks, babe!)

All in all, Cooking Mama might be "an easy one" for the seasoned gamer, but for those who aren't like me - and are just really looking for a fun, entertaining, and somewhat educational game, this one's a real good choice.  I can imagine it's also a good way to teach food appreciation to the young'ns.

oh yeah they can get stressful sometimes. I have a number of coworkers with kids who all love using the Wii for family time and entertainment. The ones that looooove beating their kids at the games crack me up.

Love these kind of games. We just rented Hells Kitchen for the Wii. It was fun but it stressed me & the kids out BIG TIME! LOL
