Nintendo - DS Console Review Summary

A Nintendo DS is a must-have addition to any avid video gamer's collection of gaming consoles. The Nintendo DS was released in 2004. The Nintendo DS was the first console to adopt a dual screen (DS) feature, which is what made the system so popular. According to one reviewer, the bottom screen gives players the option to "touch, draw, talk into, or even blow on" the screen to play certain games. It doesn't hurt that a Nintendo DS costs significantly less than other handheld video game consoles. Nintendo also offers a plethora of games for the Nintendo DS. Parents especially enjoy the games because they are entertaining and educational. "It's fun for the whole family!" said one happy player. Read all of the Nintendo DS reviews here and determine if it's the game system for you.

The Nintendo Dual Screen (or DS) was the all the rage in busy 2004 holiday season. This new age device not only looks pretty sleek and well designed here but what really makes the DS a cool step forward in portable gaming is its unique second screen, its wireless multi-player support, Nintendo64-like 3D graphics engine (better then the older Gameboy Advance anyway), and who could forget the innovative touch screen features too? Nintendo already has a lot of third party support behind the unit so see why the sky is the limit for this tiny machine.

The Nintendo DS is about the same size as a Game...

I purchased my Nintendo DS used on Ebay for significantly less than it sells for in the stores, but we've had so much fun with it already, I'd consider buying another so that we can link up and play games against each other with the DS's built-in wireless connection.

I decided to get a DS because Nintendo games were the only ones I was ever able to keep up with. As a child I loved Duck Hunt, Mario, Zelda... As the games got harder they lost all the fun for me. I purchased my DS and the new Zelda game and was instantly wisked back to my childhood days of playing games with my cousin, listening to...

I absolutely love the Nintendo DS.  When this product first came out, it wasn't anything special.  I really wanted to give my kids a PSP, but it was TWICE the price of the DS.  So, we went with the DS.  In the past year, they have come out with so many great games and gadgets for the DS that I don't regret my decision at all!  Not only can they chat with their friends and play their games wirelessly, they can get on the internet with the new browser attachment.  There are games for little kids, big kids, girls, boys, and adults.  My husband and I love Brain Age and my little ones can play...

This system is perfect for kids, especially younger ones.  It is so durable yet stylish.  It can play ds games as well as game boy advance games.  Perfect for long car trips or short trips like to the dentist.  The array of games for this system is just unreal.  Nintendo even makes movies for this system.  You can get full length movies, like Shrek and Shark Tale, or just different cartoons on one game cartridge.  There are literally thousands of games available, ranging in age for very young, like my four year old nephew all the way up to teenagers.  The greatest thing the kids like about...

My daughter was given the Nintendo DS  for her burthday. She absolutely loves the Nintendo DS.  She is always playing with it.  She loves the dual screen and the innovative touch screen features too. It is so durable yet stylish. They have come out with so many great games for the DS.  There are games for little kids, big kids, girls, boys, and adults. You can even watch movies on it. We travel alott and this is great for the long car trips! The rechargeable battery is a great feature, you no longer need to stock up on AA's to keep gaming.

I’ve had my Nintendo DS for a few years now.  I have been very impressed with the innovative touch screen technology,  which responds extremely well.  Some games do not really utilize it, but it adds a unique gameplay experience to the ones that do. While the graphics for the DS may not be as visually impressive as those of the Sony PSP, I still prefer the DS because of the better selection of games.  While many of the PSP games are basically remakes of PS2 games, the Nintendo DS has many original games which are not available on another system.  The sound isn't as great as the PSP (the...

I love my DS.  Not that I play it every single day but I have to say it might be part of the reason I love to travel.  I get to play my brains out on my DS at the airport, on the plane, extended car rides... Since the DS plays GBA games also, the selection of games is virtually endless - and CHEAP! You can get used GBA games for dirt cheap.  I was recently at a Gamestop and asked them about the DSi that was due later that week and it seemed pretty cool with the features (picture taking, web) until I asked if it still supported GBA games - No.  That was like a -100 for the DSi.

Anyways, I havea ...

My kids have had alot of game systems but this is by far the best one I have ever bought for them.  It is very durable as ours have bounced off the floor several times and still work great.  They love the chat room feature.  Most of their friends have the same system so when they come over they bring theirs and get on the chat room.  My daughter goes in her room and chats with her brother in his room!  The variety of games available makes it a great system for my 7 year old up to my 12 year old.  The only problem with the games are they are very tiny so they can get lost easily.  We have... review »

My Nintendo DS reminds me how much fun I had when I would play my old school original Game Boy back when the screens were all yellow. Nintendo has a good idea of what makes up a simply fun and entertaining gaming product. While you will not see the more adult-themed titles like in the larger and more powerful systems, the DS focuses more on innovation on the level of experience. The Nintendo wi-fi system and linked game play is an awesome addition to their portable gaming system. My friends and I would play linked games of Mario Kart and have a blast. A great feature too is the "download play"...

This small gaming system is one of the best devices that came into our family.  It is durable, versatile and easy to use.  We find this device being used by everyone in our family and it is easy to find games if you get tired of playing the ones you have already.  I highly recommend purchasing extra screen protectors in order to protect your investment and a few extra stylus' would be a good idea to keep around just in case they get lost.  Economical fun for every member of the family.

I have a blue nintendo ds, and absolutely LOVE it. it's portable, and has many games made for everyone. it was relatively cheap (85 dollars to be exact), but it's durable. where can you get something that durable, cheap, AND has all the games you know and love on it? ...NOWHERE. the only thing i would say that's negative about it, is that little kids SHOULD be supervised when using it...just a suggestion.

The DS is a great game system. It has games for every age and level of player. there is also a great variety in the types of games available. From puzzles to RPG's,  you can find what you are looking for. the rechargeable battery is a great feature. you no longer need to stock up on AA's to keep gaming. The fact that is plays GBA (Game-Boy Advance) games is great too.

My daughter has one of these and has all kinds of fun.  Great to take in the car on long trips.  This is great for kids who r in the car alot.  The games are not to expensive if you buy them used from, say, GameStop.  Also, you can get replacement parts such as new touch screens so fixing them is not too bad if your kid got irresponsible for a day.

The DS systems are great for kids and adults alike. The new games are great and being able to connect to other gamers who have a system adds a whole new twist to gaming. The one downisde is the screen is hard to see in the car. But they have made a new verison of the Ds called the DS light which has a much brighter screen. I would highly suggest this handheld device.

I asked my husband to buy the Nintendo DS for me for Christmas last year and he did. I love it. I'm more into the older games, but I have found that the new brain games are great. I like the idea that I can take it with me on trips, etc. I also like the fact that it's not big so that it's not in the way or anything like that.
