This is my second Jodi Picoult book and I must say I am quickly becoming a fan of hers.  She writes mystery and fiction like Danielle Steel writes romance.  Both write so well that you feel like you could be a character in the story and when you have completed a book you are hoping that a movie will...

This book was very disappointing to me.  The subject matter, which hits home with so many that have students in high school, or who are the parents of bullied children.  So much more could have been done with this book that wasn't.  There were very good character twists that illuminate the characters... read full review »

A recent book I have read and would recommend is Nineteen Seconds by Jodi Picoult. Picoult writes about controversial subjects such as suicide, and Nineteen Seconds is no different as it is about a teenager named Peter shooting and killing people at his high school. Although it was published before the Virginia Tech tragedy, there are similarities. Peter is a social outcast who is teased from the time he starts school. Josie is his best friend when they are younger, but when she wants to be popular in middle school, she joins the cool group and leaves Peter behind. Ultimately, Peter starts to unravel...

Nineteen Minutes was the first novel by Jodi Picoult that I'd read and I am now a huge fan of her work. I can't wait to get through all of her books!

Ninteen Minutes is a fiction novel about a school shooting at Sterling High School in Sterling, NH. The plot follows the lives of the school shooter, Peter, and his former best friend, Josie, as well as secondary characters, like Josie and Peter's parents, in the after math of the shooting.

I loved Nineteen Minutes because it was thought-provoking and controversial. It also had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. Jodi Picoult...

This was the first Jodi Picoult book I had ever read and I was hooked from page 1. I've managed to grab up most of her books but find that I can't read them back to back, I have to read a different author in between reading her books. Not sure why. Does anyone else have this problem? I have "Change of Heart" on my bookshelf and will be starting that as soon as I finish reading "Last Man Standing" by David Baldacci.

We recently read this book in my book club. I couldn't put it down and was so engrossed in the subject matter it made me ill.  The main character is oft-terrorized in his small town all throughout his school days.  It starts on the first day of kindergarten and doesn't end until he guns down numerous classmates and teachers his senior year of high school.  This book hit close to home because we had something along this line that happened in my high school and I realized just how close we could have come to something this big happening as well.  Kids can be mean, and other children pay the price. ...

Jodi Picoult never fails to amaze me with her writing. I couldn't put this one down!!!  I started reading it the day before the NIU shooting.  Its always so hard to understand why a person could ever do something so horrific and this book really makes you understand it.  I obviously don't agree with it but the way she writes and puts you in the mind of Peter, so you can actually see what happened to him to push him to the point of killing his classmates was just...I can't even think of a decent word to describe it!  This book made me cry...anyone with children should read this.  My neice...

This has to be one the best books I have ever read. It is very intense and deep book. As a teacher, it really made me think of the students that I work with and how we really don't know what is going on in their lives. If you have ever been picked on or humiliated by others, you really start to see Peter's side and really start to feel for him. I couldn't put the book down and I was sad when it ended as it just drew you in page by page.

Jodi's books get better and better, and get harder and harder to put down.  My 14 year reads every one of her books when I'm done with them, and feels the same way.  Excellent character devlopment, gripping plot, and underlying themes all rolled into an excellent book.  Another job well done.

Having read a few of Picoult's other books, I was interested in reading this one. She does capture the confused nature of her young adult characters, but the book seems to go on and on and on, saying little to add to the basic tenant of bullied children finally striking out. The one positive slant seemed to me to be that the relationship bewteen the perpetrator and the one who befriended him was effective and realistic.

She does illustrate the pervasive nature of bullying and anger in today's youth. For that alone, I would read it. Much unnecessary verbiage makes the book too prolonged and tedious...

Nineteen minutes is another hit for Jodi Picoult.  I have read most of her books and love them.  This is probably one of my favorites now though.  She seems to bring the characters to life and you can actually picture them.  The twists that she puts into the books makes it intriquing and electrifying.  Nineteen minutes brings to light things about teenagers and their thoughts at times that we don't understand.  I think she did an incredible job.

Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult was an attention grabber! As a teacher it really kept me interested because it was ina school setting. I really felt the pain of the students as they went through the story. It is a reminder that we need to be more aware of what a child is going through and not to just brush their problems off but really be there for them. It had a surprise ending and really peaked my interest. What a great book!

I read this book while on spring break and it is one of the few books that could completely distract me from the sun and the beach. It is beautifully written and you will not be able to stop reading until you finish it. It can be very disturbing and sad but you will look at the world in a different light after reading it. This author will become one of your favorites if you give her books, especially this one, a chance.

I never dreamed I would have any sympathy for a killer.  The writing was incredible and held my attention all through.  If you have ever been harassed, you will relate.  Actually anyone ever attending school will relate to someone in this story.  Very tragic, but also very realistic!  Great author, she has done many other great works!

This was the first Janet book for me, a friend lent it to me.  I enjoyed her writing style and the depth of the characters and plot--but it also scared the living daylights out of me --even though this is a work of fiction it reminded me of Columbine and  I kept thinking it could happen to anyone, anywhere anytime
